Ok, I went to moroso again ......

Here are my time slips... and welcome to the 15 second club FF

15.894 @ 87.45 mph!! That is 4 tenths of a second faster than 2 weeks ago... All I changed was the muffler :)

FINALY!!!! Congrats man!

what did you launch at, give me more details :)

I launched around 4500 rpms but i slipped the clutch just enough to wheel hop maybe 1 or 2 hops and then hook... then i dumpled it...

I did clean up the tires before the launch in the water box.. that seemed to help more than anything.. :)

I just got on the box, revved up to like 5k and dropped the hammer, let it spin until it started to hop.. then i knew i was ready to race..

i got on the line and positioned my left hand on the steering wheel in a way that would block the tach.. ( i know that sounds stupid.. ) but if i look at the tach, i tend to focus on it and not on the feel of the tires on the ground...

then i revved up to what sounded and felt like 3500-4500 rpms... and then let it out with a little slip and the WOT real fast...

slam ! i was out of the hole in 2.3 seconds both times !!! Minimal wheel hop .. like i said, the 15.8 run had only 1 hop and it hooked like mad ! :)

I know for sure that the poly filled motor mount helped... and it wasnt as tight as having BOTH mounts on.. i've only got the rear poly mount installed BTW.... I have the front one here for sale if anybody wants it.... ($150 shipped)

and then i went back like almost 1 hour later because cars kept breaking... i only got 2 runs in but the 2nd run was almost the same as the first except i ran 15.9 @ the same mph and i also got another 2.3 0-60 launch !! :)

I finally figured out how to get the tires ready without really destroying them in the burnout box... however I suggest that anyone who runs on the track should clean them up in the burnout box first... just dont sit there for 10 seconds scorching them..... :)

Good times at last Ford! Nicely done and thanks for the advice on the burnout box. BTW are you related to Jimmy Dean the Sausage King of the Southwest? LOL

you see ford, I was right about burning your tires. It doesn't work for all kind of tires, but worked for my dunlops and for w/e you have now. btw what tires you have?
Keep it up man!

He was cleaning them, not burning them. You do it to heat them up, he does it to clean off debris.

what were you racing in the first time slip? looked like a good race, same mph. He must've passed you at the top of third then had to shift to fourth

the 15.9 race was vs an old model civic, like a 91 hatchback with a b series engine swap...he caught me after the 60 foot or something... lol it was a fun race...

the 15.8 race was vs an integra .. I dont know what type, but i have a feeling it was not the GS-R model... lol

my burn-out has two purposes.. #1 to clean the tires.. and #2 to get them warm enough to hook... (not smoked and burned like slicks)

also, my tires are : Yokohama, AVS ES 100's size 15/55/205
using rota slipstream wheels

I hit 15.9 with just intake and exhaust. I have slips for the 16.01 run, but not the 15.9 one.

wow thats awesome !!

Thanks for the info... I would like point out that the 2000 elantra is not an XD... it is the previous J2 model, however the engine is still basically the same as the XD non vvt.

So according to that you gained a second!!! but i was searching that site and it doesnt seem too detailed... I mean all it does is give a number, no actual time sheets or anything...

FordFasteRR
12-05-2004, 08:52 PM
well, i went 1 second faster than a bone stock full weight gls...

thats not a big deal... anybody could go 2 seconds faster with a stock xd with just a plain wet kit....

I guess that I might get close to those figures with the blower... we'll see !!

UPDATE:

I would like to add something to this thread... hopefully I didn't already post this.. but..

I had the intention of possibly quickshifting in an attempt to improve the 1/4 mile time... however I did not do it.

I still granny-shifted on both runs :)

I suppose that if I would have quickshifted, I could take another tenth out of it... who knows, maybe even more... but I did not want to risk frying my transmission & clutch.... lol

Ford, i think the biggest reduction in my 1/4 mile time came when i got the suspension. With no movement, i was able to get better launches and loose less in shifts.

FordFasteRR
12-07-2004, 05:52 PM
can you briefly explain your suspension mods ?

or when you say " no movement " do you mean that you did the mod that we discussed over year ago that I never posted on the boards ?

If that is the mod you did... do not post it ... just PM me.. :)

the use of coilovers...i noticed that i could launch a lot quicker and smoother when i installed my TEINS....because it helps with keeping the weight on the front wheels

what makes you think that quick shifting will mess something up?

FordFasteRR
12-08-2004, 11:12 AM
quickshifting: changing gears like normal, use the clutch like normal.. but you DO NOT LET OFF THE GAS between shifts...

thats what I consider quick-shifting... and its very hard on the tranny... lol
