View Full Version : Another Dented Wheel

I was driving up the LA yesterday and I hit an uneven spot on the freeway. Dented my right front wheel again. At least this time it isn't cracked and is probably repairable. Oh well, I have 3 extra wheels on hand anyway. Also, this prompted me to buy a new set of tires. Thicker this time.
I'm currently running 215/40/17s. So I'm upgrading to 215/45/17 Yokohama AVS ES100s. I know they have crappy tread life, but they should give me a little better performance, traction, and cushion.
Also, my car is in the shop for a check engine light and I think I'm coming down with the flu. What a great weekend for me.

That sucks man. I know how it feels... I found out this weekend that one or more of my wheels may be out of round. So I may be buying new wheels.
Those Yokohama's should be nice. Not only should the thicker sidewalls protect the wheels more, but those sidewalls are pretty stiff.

Pfff. I'm on my third set of steelies for one of my wheels, technically. Pennsylvania roads suck.

Sorry to hear about all of your recent misfortunes. That definitely would ruin my weekends. I've noticed also that the potholes around here in So Cal have been getting worse and worse with the recent rainstorms we've been getting. I hope it won't cost too much to repair the wheel. I currently have the Yoko AVS ES100 in the same size you're getting and I've been pretty happy with it. I haven't hit any major pothole yet (knock on wood), so I hope the 45 series tire will hold up. Also, are you going to try and get CalTrans to reimburse you for your damages? My friend recently went through the same hassle so if you need to know where/who to contact let me know and I'll ask him.

So I got a call from Hyundai service telling me why I'm getting the CEL. They says it's because the second O2 sensor wasn't clipped into place like it should, so it was left dangling and it rubbed against the axle or something, but because of my aftermarket exhaust they can't replace it under warranty. So I'm pretty pissed now and I'm going to take it to midas to see what they can do. Gosh... everything is going wrong with my car right now. There is no way in heck that I will pay $250 to have them replace the O2 sensor harness.

So I read some laws about aftermarket stuff and I also contacted the corporate supervisor at Midas. First off, about the laws... no dealer can void a warranty because of aftermarket parts being present on your vehicle. They may only void the warranty for a specific repair if the aftermarket part is proven to be responsible for the damage. In my case, it looks like the installation of the exhaust may be the culprit, but I will take it in to Midas tomorrow to get it looked at.
The supervisors at Midas are always really nice and handle everything with no problem. The guy I talked to this time said it would probably be no problem for them to fix it. I thank God everything seems like it's getting taken care of.
So I'm really pissed off at my hyundai dealer right now. I checked it out and the O2 sensor is no where near where the installation of the exhaust took place. So I called them to let the know and asked them why they are denying me service under warranty and they are saying that someone unclipped it and it wasn't them. So I think I may need to call the FTC. This is really frustrating me and I really don't need this right now.
