The Turbonator:
''The Turbonator's airflow dynamics produces a swirling, fast-burn effect in the combustion chamber. This creates finer particles of atomized fuel, allowing better flame propagation and more complete combustion.
By enhancing fuel atomization the Turbonator produces increased horsepower and fuel economy. An emissions lab, licensed by the EPA conducted tests on non-moving vortex generators that produced results as high as 20 horsepower and 24% increases in mileage. Other independent studies yielded results as high as 35 HP and 31% MPG. Although results varied from vehicle to vehicle, gains were evident, and considering the unit is inexpensive, easy to install, and requires no maintenance, installing the Turbonator is a worthwhile investment.''

What do you think about that?
(also don't flame me, because I have no idea in this domain :D )

when will this ever end?!?!? i can't wait for the day till someone actually shows up on the board with this installed. then real flaming will begin :) i guess what i'm trying to say is that even if cost $5 it would be a waste of money. personally i wouldn't put it on my car even if i was paid to do that. i just see that fan falling apart and getting sucked into TB within first 10miles

Well, basically it'll probably do more harm than good. It has to do with how much airflow is required to keep up with the demands of your engine. If the fan can't spin fast enough (and it won't), then it will be a restriction in the intake at WOT. This is the kind of thing that you'd see on an infomercial where they claim amazing things that bring up the question, why don't they sell it in stores? 'Cause it doesn't work, that's why, lol.

bought it, but it's called the tornado fuel saver. PIECE OF SH*T. Got it when I first started to customize the car, diidn't know any better. Please don't waste your money.
learn from my mistake.!!!!!!!!

We want all the guys over at the Honda site to be buying these! That way we can laugh at THEM instead of flaming each other! Anything that claims to be "in service" on government fleet vehicles is bound to be full of ****.....referring to the Tornado of course.

even though this thing is a total gimmit... I would still like to see some 3rd party before & after dyno's done...
:) just for the heck of it.

shut up.
even if the thingamajigger works, the swirl will be diffused LONG before it reaches the combustion chamber or touches fuel.

Thingamajigger is a technical term in case you were wondering. I believe that the Tornado creates better fuel economy by lightening the drivers wallet!

Oh, I didn't even look at it closely. I thought it was another electric supercharger. So it's just a stationary fan blade thing kinda like the Tornado -- well those are crap too.

12-08-2004, 07:55 PM
ok then, if this swirling action really works like they say it does.. it would be even better to make tiny little tornado blades and insert one into each runner of the intake manifold..
so you have 1 tornado for each cylinder :) LOL
!! OH YEAH ... now we need someone to do a before & after dyno ! LOL
Very Scary!! These have been "round the block" way too many times. I know...I've been there. :( These are nothing more than beer can turbines. We used to make them back in the day with a pair of snips and some empties. (burp) Personally I like those little black coil boosters you see at all the auto swap meets. "this V8 is running on only 4 cylinders...amazing isn't it folks?" Reminds me of that old saying....something about a "ten foot pole."

actually, something like this would be better for the intake ports if you want it to swirl, the oval intake runners probably wouldnt be conducive to swirl

Remember how there is a butterfly valve at the throttle body? Do you really think there's still gonna be a "tornado" effect after the air goes through the TB???
For that money, you can have a cup of Starbucks Grande Peppermint Mocha every weekday, for a month.

hey i got one of these...it added at least 10HP and i get a good 30mpg city driving
of course im full of ****...:) thats what im here for...the sarcastic comments...for the 343978927982372437th time, this is a POS

here is an impartial test by Popular Mechanics using a chassis dynamometer at Universal Technical Institute in Houston...
PM Tests at UTI... (http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/auto_technology/1802932.html?page=1&c=y)
...Both devices reduced peak horsepower by more than 10 percent. The Intake Twister increased fuel consumption by about 20 percent; the TornadoFuelSaver provided no significant change...
...We say caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). But there are plenty of people out there who say: "There's one born every minute." Prediction: Within a few weeks after the appearance of this article, there will be gas-saving gadgets on the market that tout themselves as "Featured in Popular Mechanics." Someone will buy them. Probably not you...
We spend our hard earned $$ on nice shiny tubing for a CAI or SRI with mandrel bends to create a smooth laminar flow of air into the intake and then they expect us to buy into this garbage :D I'm also annoyed that the Tornado product is endorsed by one of the guys on "Two Guys Garage" who should know better.

Think about it this way... the shortest, fastest path for air (like everything else) is a straight path. A swirling, circling, spinning, winding, whatever path isn't going to make things better. You wanna make it better? Have that **** forced in there, then you're doing some good.

its like spitting into the wind. next they will steal an idea that works from that guy who built that electric supercharger with like 12 batteries to run it. you will see the kit on tv
Hmmmmmmmm, thats a good idea!
Nah, im kidding. I have my own ideas...

Its the same thing as a Tornado, The only difference is this product is a spinning thing that blocks air moving into your engine, while the Tornado is a stationary piece of ****.

I have looked it to these things as well, but I’m impartial. I have asked two mechanics about a number of cheep upgrades and this was one of them. I basically found out that the idea of swirling air mixing with the fuel in the chamber is a load of garbage. Yet, as we know these devices create swirling air in the intake and swirling air, is colder air, and colder air gives more oxygen rich air, more oxygen gives more horse power. That’s just about the only thing positive. If you do think about buying one, I would recommend one that takes up the least amount of volume in your intake to insure there are no air restrictions that can cause a loss of air.
*Edit also discovered they do add a little bit of power because of the cold air, but your throttle response will be reduced a bit.

Er, um, yeah. They want you to add this thing inside your intake, reducing the diameter and impeding airflow? And go buy a new engine when a blade breaks off and pwns a valve. Nah, that'll be seed money for my turbo kit fund.
