It depends, do you have an auto or manual? Do you want more top end power or more low end power?
Run a search on "header" and you'll find loads of info. Good luck.

It wont make a difference, a header is a header.
SCC did a test on a Acura (go figure) against the stock manifold, a 4-2-1 header and a 4-1 header. The stock made like 130 hp, the 4-2-1 made like 138, and the 4-1 made like 139. The 4-2-1 made its power at like 5500 while the 4-1 made it at like 6500. I will try to find the actual article to back this up. But there is really no difference.

i'd like a jump of power around 5,000 t0 5,500.
I say get a 4-2-1 we need more torque than hp.Or cars will never have real good top end.But thats just my opinion

you definately want a 4-1 if you have manual and want top end gain, thats my opinion

If i had the chance to do my exhaust all over again.. I would only do 1 thing... get a better 4-2-1 header like the mussa unit.
however I would like to see a dyno of another XD with the mussa so that I can compare the torque curve to my stock 1.8L 4-2-1 headers... :(
seems like only a few people have dynoed. :(

wow this post is an oldie. but i'm going to use it so that is good.
if i want more torque in the lower power band like 2,500 to 3,500 rpm range, which header would be better?
stock
4-2-1
4-1
??
anyone know?

good luck picking up torque in that rpm range with a header. The stock manifold or the 1.8 elantra header (maybe even a hot shot) would be my guess

wait... if you're looking at working towards a turbo why are you asking about headers?

because i might not be able to put together the turbo kit right now, plus i found a 4-2-1 used for like 45 dollars from a guy that i know in my hometown so thats why. haha

For our cars, a 4-2-1 is better. Our cars can't make the most of a 4-1.

How can you say that? Our cars, that doesnt make a difference, my engine makes its power at 4500-5800 RPM and perhaps someone elses makes its power at 3500RPM. Personally I find that my 4-2-1 is crap, I would be very much interested in getting a 4-1 if I wasnt going turbo next spring, I have had 4-1/4-2-1 headers on all my 4cyl engines and they work wonderfully with very little variation in power curve.

4-2-1 is the best, but also cheaper than the 4-1... go figure right?
