it works like installing racing motor mounts.. it just reduced the movement and flex of the engine while racing. !!
:drive: Have fun speed racer! :) Hope it helps your times :)

Thats pretty cool, so its basically an udjustable motor mount? Or wait... is it adjustable?
The benifit I see in this is you shouldn't get much more vibration at idle. If it's designed properly you should get the benifits of stiffer motor mounts without the negatives

So are there already elantra mounts to this "shock absorber" out there or would you have to custom make some?

i think I can make the mount myself.
I might go on ebay and buy a dampner from a suzuki ... they sell them for like $20- 80 ..
:) Then I just have to make the brackets and i'm golden !
Here is an auction for the dampner.. $25 buy it now...

its distance from the centerline of the crankshaft means that it doesnt have to be nearly as solid as a motor mount because of the increased leverage.

wow...that looks pretty sweet....so it would act like the motor mounts without the drawbacks...

hrmmm....
ford, you drag race pretty often. i was thinking about this while at work, mounting your bracket to the cylinder head could cause issues over time (warpage). Im not saying that it will, but its something to think about.
if you had a way to measure the force transmitted, you would know. then again, because of the distance, it may not push with more than 20-30lbs on your damper

I'm not 100% sure about this, but the passenger side motor mount bolts to some part of the engine.. the bracket for the damper attaches to the bracket, not directly to the cyl head.
however..
the factory pass side motor mount may attach to the cyl head or the block.. i dont know which one.
if it attaches to the block , then there is no risk of warpage because the bracket never touches the cyl head..... just the motor mount bracket..
get what i'm saying ? now, can someone answer the question about where the pass side motor mount attaches to ?

I'll go look at the head in my garage
edit: it sure looks like its a part of the block, Im almost sure of it

OK, good !
So that means that there is no issues related to head warpage associated with this mod!
GREAT !

I see a bent mount or hood dented from underneath in your future :-)
It doesn't look strong enough for the torque it should have to handle.

umm.. the dampter from a sport bike does not bottom out if installed centered. there is only about 1 inch of movement in each direction and these dampers can hanle more than 30 degrees of rotation from a sport bikes front forks... so i think it has room to move completely without bottoming out and therefore nothing will bend.

They have been putting these in euro cars for years. It helps with initial gear engagement. The Audi 80 I had, had one. They do work well. However thier's was reverse order. It pulled, instead of pushed. Either way, if your are quick starting alot (drag) then I honestly think this mod would be great for you.

I wonder how fast the vibrations would wear it out though... good thing their cheap.

i would say that it could easily last a year or 2... lol
These things work good in inline engine ( mainly sixes) in rear wheel drive cars where big power breaks engine mounts all the time. duuno if thats what the maker is trying to achieve in this FF aplication.

I think the biggest advantage you'd get is just the effect of preventing the engine from moving too quickly. If it can do that, then it may eliminate wheel hop.
