View Full Version : CD player woes...

As odd as it sounds, I've never had an in-dash CD player go bad... My stock head unit has been acting odd lately... when i first get in the car and eject a CD the motor will keep runing and trying to push out even after the CD has been taken out... then when I try to put in a new disc it may or may not take it... when it does sometimes it spits it back out again...
it seems like this is more prone to happen when I first get in my car and it seems like turning my car off for a while (going into the store) and coming back out will fix it
the only readings it's given are "Err 2" and "Err 6" (on the track display)
Anyone have any solutions or is it time to send this thing to HU heaven?

well the stock hyundai CD decks seem to hold up pretty well. if the car is less than three years old, hyundai will replace it under warranty. it's three years on stock audio equipment, not the typical 5/60 B2B warranty.

Hmm. not sure what my manufacture date is... it's an 01 so I'm probably over the 3 years regardless. :(

well if you wanted to get sneaky, if you have a friend with an 02-04 with stock CD unit, it's the same unit. you can swap them and have your friend have the one in his car replaced. or, just look for one on ebay. they go for $30-40. same unit is also in many of the santa fes and sonatas.

I'm about to head out to Florida in a week or so. If you've still got it after new years I'll shoot you a line and pick that up from ya.

thats too bad... I'll be around Brunswick, GA for a day and a half (on the east coast) and then around Pompano Beach/Ft. Lauderdale for the rest of the week. I think it would probably be easier to ship it than for me to drive over to Pensacola though.

Thought I'd ressurrect this thread for the benefit of anyone else who might come across it looking for help with the Err6 problem with the cd player.
My deck has started to refuse to play CDs, always flashing Err 6. When my playstation stopped playing CDs I found instructions on the net that said to try cleaning the lense with a qtip and rubbing alcohol. I decided to try this on the deck.
I used a pocketknife to keep the intake mechanism down and out of the way, a flashlight to see with and needlenose pliers to extend a qtip into the player to reach the lens. Took quite a while to get it right but it worked - player seems to have no trouble with my CDs now.
