: Who owns what - GOOD STUFF
SuperGLS 12-31-2004, 04:07 PM This might be the best picture I've ever found on the internet (well besides those ones of Britney Spear nak... umm, nevermind).

kylemorg 12-31-2004, 04:21 PM That's awesome! I've told people at work that a lot of those brands are now owned by other comanies, but they didn't believe me.
Jtown 12-31-2004, 04:29 PM I thought the kia hyundai thing was the other way around, Hyundai owns Kia. I am also pretty damn sure Rolls owns Bently 100%. Honda owns Acrua and the.

Doesn't the pic reflect that Hyundai owns KIA 100%?
mrhoaf 12-31-2004, 05:46 PM I am also pretty damn sure Rolls owns Bently 100%.
nope, they were split up a couple years ago.... although i think either Rolls will join bently under VW in a few years, or the other way around... read an article on it a while back in Car and Driver I believe.....
didn't realize that DC had a chunk of Hyundai.... strangely makes me feel better after growing up a MOPAR guy...... I also like that they showed the old AMC logo with Jeep....
they also left Infinity (Nissan) off the picture.....
I think it's nice to see how everybody is related.... it explains things like Daewoo's products showing up in Chevy and Suzuki dealerships, for example....
CTele02 12-31-2004, 06:02 PM LOL... Samsung makes cars? I use one of their monitors....
SuperGLS 12-31-2004, 06:20 PM Keep in mind I'm not totally sure how accurate and up to date this diagram is.
Yeah, it is showing that Hyundai owns 100% of Kia. For some reason I was under the impression that it was only 51% ownership, I'll have to look into this.
Nissan is shown as a branch of of Renault.
only1db 12-31-2004, 07:02 PM WOW!! that is a pretty good chart!
seraph0503 12-31-2004, 09:47 PM LOL... Samsung makes cars? I use one of their monitors....
i have a hyundai 19 inch flat screen on my comp.... go to tiger direct to see what i mean...
Elkane7533 01-01-2005, 03:09 PM Update on that :
DC's trying to sell hyundai share back to hyundai. Hyundai also feels it can compete w/o the help of DC now.
Corrections:
Lotus is owned by a Malaysian car manufacturer called Proton.
Acura needs to be there under Honda.
evan938 01-01-2005, 03:25 PM maybe honda doesnt OWN acura...but i know that acuras are POWERED by honda engines....doesnt necessarily mean that honda owns acura...just a thought
blupupher 01-01-2005, 03:30 PM Hyunda USA is making the frames for the new Wrangler model in '06, I don't think DC would want to sell them.
SuperGLS 01-01-2005, 04:00 PM maybe honda doesnt OWN acura...but i know that acuras are POWERED by honda engines....doesnt necessarily mean that honda owns acura...just a thought
Honda does own Acura, it's the same thing. Go to www.honda.com and check it out. It's like Nissan/Infiniti.
Hyunda USA is making the frames for the new Wrangler model in '06, I don't think DC would want to sell them.
Oh yeah? Hmm, I hadn't heard that. Can you link me to a article or something (I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just interested)?
I did read that DC sold their shares of Hyundai back to Hyundai, but they were obviously still focusing on the "world engine" AKA the Theta together, along with Mitsu.
Elkane7533 01-01-2005, 04:03 PM Old news. Thought everyone knew this.

Was this for me? I was asking about an article about the Jeep parts. I acknowledged that I already knew this as well. I'm confused now, haha.

no. for blupupher.
I wanted to be a smartass and find the article you want and post it here, but I couldn't. The closest thing i could find was the 2 companies halting the joint project on some truck powertrain stuff... nothing about jeep frame...
CornbreadXD 01-02-2005, 08:34 PM how come Saturn isn't on threre
SuperGLS 01-02-2005, 09:32 PM how come Saturn isn't on threre
Good call, it should be under GM. But, who really wants/cares about Saturns anyway? Haha.
only1db 01-02-2005, 09:56 PM :abovelol: ....where are these infamous britney pics?
blupupher 01-04-2005, 10:30 AM ......
Can you link me to a article or something
.....
There have been several, but this is the only one I can find right now:
http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/news/802_jeepplant.html
hyunelan2 01-04-2005, 11:01 AM [off topic]Will the new Hyundai Plant in North America be staffed by union workers? The jeep article alludes to UAW involvement. My dad wants a Hyundai, but works union labor. Bad things have happened to people's cars who didn't buy union-made products (especially Saturn before they organized). That's all [/off topic]
Jlivan 01-04-2005, 11:08 AM That is a cool chart!
Honda does own Acura, it's the same thing. Go to www.honda.com and check it out. It's like Nissan/Infiniti.
Well they show Toyota/Lexus on there - isn't that the same thing?
SuperGLS 01-04-2005, 05:20 PM I'm not sure Mike, check out http://www.hmmausa.com/ for info on the Alabama plant.
mydartswinger 07-12-2005, 12:26 AM Good call, it should be under GM. But, who really wants/cares about Saturns anyway? Haha.
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Saturn broke free from GM several years ago and are on their own. I don't have any proof, but I remember hearing something about it a while back.
Z-Tune 07-12-2005, 12:45 AM MG died recently
Toyota owns Scion
GM used to own Oldsmobile...until it died
Acura is Honda's American division
Infiniti is Nissan's American division
I'm pretty sure Volkswagen owns Porsche since the Touareg use the Cayenne's platform.
I thought DC and Mercedes-Benz were merged as Daimler-Benz? I'm probably just confused from thinking about who's who.
Saturn didn't break off ties with GM, either.
Saturn didn't break off ties with GM, either.
yeah.. if you've checked out the whole "GM Employee Discount" thing.. at the bottom of the final few seconds of the commercial.. it lists basically all the ones on that chart, including saturn. just thought i'd point that out :)
bigkahuna2187 07-23-2005, 10:51 PM awww wtf i didnt know subaru was GM :(
ArunSenior04 07-23-2005, 11:58 PM When I read "good stuff" i didnt imagine a thread about company owning.
Money 07-24-2005, 01:11 AM DC and Benz are merged. The Chrysler Crossfire uses a Mercedes engine. Land Rover used Mercedes engines....and what the hell, I didn't know GM owned Opel!!!! No wonder Opel Astra comes with a V-8.
Superman 07-24-2005, 01:19 AM Update on that :

Corrections:

Acura needs to be there under Honda.
DC was just in it for the Hyundai trucks. But now they really don't want Hyundai anymore.
Acura, Infinity, Scion wouldn't be on there cause they are US only branded cars, they are not sold under those names anywhere else in the world. Scions are Toyota, Acura is Honda, and Infinity are Nissan in Japan. The only lux line sold in Japan is the Lexus line so that is why it is on the pict.
That pict is a few years old so there are several changes.
Elan-guy 07-25-2005, 09:48 AM acura will soon be sold in china.
jimnran 07-25-2005, 11:36 AM This explains how the new GTO was actually a Holden car. GM owns the company. What a small web we weave LOL
jimnran
tuner 07-25-2005, 01:16 PM Save picture as..... A bunch of car info I can school my friends on. haha
mtlelantra 07-25-2005, 02:21 PM awww wtf i didnt know subaru was GM :(
Saab 9-5 (?) and the impreza wagon are essentially the same... but subarus are made in japan in their own factory... there's some GM ownership, but they're not "the same" I believe
DanMan 07-25-2005, 02:28 PM At a quick glance it looks like Hyundai is partially owned by DC.
2001GLS 07-25-2005, 03:34 PM The chart is somewhat dated. Rover was just bought by a Chinese car company!
SuperGLS 07-25-2005, 05:49 PM At a quick glance it looks like Hyundai is partially owned by DC.
Pretty much not really. They used to have some calloborative things happening, but no longer (save the "world engine" aka Theta engine).
But yeah, this is quite old actually, still a good place to start for people who don't know anything about anything.
I think Chery bought MG Rover, right?
