Some people have been saying lately that if you put neons inside of your car and the police can see them through the window then they are illegal. My question is, 1. is this true.......and 2. why would they sell them if they were illegal?
Thanks alot-

Dark tint is also illegal, yet they still sell it. Also radar detecters are illegal and they sell them. They can just say im just using this car for show and get away with it. Im not sure about neons inside a car, they do have some on e-bay but im not sure.

1st off, i wouldnt be suprised if they are illegal, just like tint and radar detectors like gtstisl said
2nd, why would you put neons in your car? pretty ricey...
i guess its not as bad as when i was w/ a friend and we went to someones house to get a socket, and he was like "ooohh check this out"...we go over...purple neons under the front dash and under the back seats...IN A NEW BUICK! (maybe a cutlass or somethin, but it was 100% a grandpa car)

If you look at most of those packages they say something along the lines of :"For offroad use ONLY!"
As long as your car is not moving, you will be ok (usually, check your local laws) but once your car moves they can bust you!

From the few cops that I know in the Chicago area, this is what they have told me about added lighting to a car.
1. any exterior lighting visible from the front of your vehicle can only be white or amber in color... this includes underbody kits. So the colored washer nozzles and colored turn signals, colored underbody kits, etc... are all illegal.
2. any lighting that is not standard on your vehicle, that is deemed to be distracting to other drivers, is illegal. They didnt get too specific with this, but I'm assuming they mean if you have like green lights shining out of your car, its going to turn some heads (be distracting to other drivers).
With this, I would assume that any neons or interior lighting outside of your map lights, that can be seen from outside of your car while you are moving, would leave grounds for an angry cop on a Dunkin Donuts binge to pull you over.

Yes, it's illegal. I hope you didn't make too big of an *** of yourself. ;) They sell race headers, too. For track use only. ;)

only in Va and ct are radar detectors illegal...as far as i know....why would you have lights on while your driving anyway??? do you want everybody to look at you? i know that when my system is turned up a little bit people have a tendency to look...but big underbody neons...is one thing....and why would you have neons on...on the inside of the car while your driving...they just take away from your night vision....people amaze me

$hit, half my ride is illegal. strobes, limo tint all around, interior neons, full custom exhaust (no cats/resonator) hyper blue headlights/foglights. in fla all is legal. i lived there 8 yrs ago. in the D all is illegal. it depends what the state/local laws are where you live. just dont get caught, or try not too.

neons in the cabin area of ur car make it way too hard to see outside to the sides of ur vehicle at night due to reflection so most areas make them illegal to have on while driving at night.

I wouldn't say all is legal in FL. Cops can stop you for your tint. It is also illegal to have any red or blue lights on the exterior of the car. Heck, they stopped me for my loud music.
I am not really sure if neon interior lights are legal or not here. I am going to have to guess it might be true, only b/c the lights could distort night vision.

neon is illegal inside your vehicle unless you are in a stationary position. when i had my monte carlo i had red neons under my front two seats so it would glow in the footwell so it did not impair my night vision so dont just assume that neons in the car will impair night vision, i got pulled over because i took my front license plate off because it looked gay and i left the neon on and the cop didnt do ****. and radar detectors are only illegal in two states virginia is one i know for sure and i believe only1db is correct with ct as the other one

dude dont wory about interior neons ... cops dont care enought to write you a ticket for them and if so they can just tell you to turn em off.

interiors are only illegal if they are blue or red...trust me i got a ticket for it. other colors are fine and as long as they don't hinder your capability to drive.

True, but this may be just enough of a reason for them to pull you over anyway. Often times police officers pull a car over "on suspicion" of something - anything - hoping that they will find that the driver is inebriated or doing something else illegal.

i used to live in fla. you are right..in florida. different states have different laws about aftermarket mods. tint, neons, lights, lowering, headlight heights. all states differ on these things. whats awesome down in florida for you, is illegal for me in detroit.
i wish i still lived in clearwater fl. pimpin with all the lights on and not get pulled over.

Nail on the head.
there ARE certain federal laws about vehicle laws though. You cannot in any state have blue and red combonation lights on your vehicle at any time unless you are a emergency vehicle.
Now, state to state tint laws, stereo laws, exhaust note laws... See in FL it varies from county to county and town to town, forget state to state
