Hey Guys,
After looking at the ipod installs that everyone has done, i'm looking at installing the 20gig sony mp3 player. The question I have is if the line out on that device will conect with the stock unit in a canadian 2004 GT.

I believe this was discussed a few times before, the stock radio does not have a Line in. You would either have to replace the radio with one that supports line in or try those FM Modulator Line in adapters that sound like crap. I just replaced my radio in my 02 and what a difference in sound quality.

what would be the best option to keep the stock look and get a head unit that has a line in. Is there anything offered by Hyundai as an upgrade that would work?

I don't think Hyundai offers anything, but the stereo should be a standard DIN size so any aftermarket radio that fits in 1 DIN would fit. Should be able to pick one up that looks like the same color and you can even get MP3 ones.

If you are going to be adding Subs later on, getting one with Pre-outs now would be beneficial.

I have the Hyundai Clarion HU, and I think I remember seeing a line in last time I checked... not sure.

i think my nakamichi head unit has the most "stock" appearance of any new aftermarket head unit, and it has an aux-in:

looking in from outside the car, a thief would have no idea it's not the stock unit.

Does it sound good? That is the kind of look I want. I'm too old to have a tricked out stereo.

asking if it sounds good is like asking if the pope believes in god...lol.

nakamichi has always been about uncompromising sound quality and understated looks. it's not about features (it doesn't play mp3 CDs and doesn't have dancing dolphins on the display). but it has front, rear, and subwoofer 4V pre-amp outputs as well as aux inputs. it has bass, mid, treble, and subwoofer level controls and a 24-bit digital to analog converter (DAC). i hear detail in CDs that i don't even hear on my home stereo. the internal amp can be switched off entirely if you use external amps. the FM section has the best reception of any deck i've ever had.

the downside is that nakamichi almost went under and had a lot of reliability problems. they underwent a change in management and resurrected themselves with the model i have (CD400). i've had no problems at all, it's a great deck... just make sure you get it from an authorized dealer otherwise nakamichi won't warrant it. you should be able to get one for about $300.
