I had a cavalier b4 my elantra. Considering GM sponsored an ihra or nhra team at one point and made 850HP on an ecotec block. P.S. I hate the look of the front end of this year of cav, but with all the mods done to it you have to look at the possibilities.

If you're looking for a little sporty FWD car in that class... I'd suggest the Protege. Mazda builds their chassis and tunes their suspensions so nicely from the factory it's really a nice place to start. Then there's the Mazdaspeed Protege to borrow technology from, and the potential to turbocharge it.

"2001 Cavalier 4 door touring car
This is an all-out road racing car with the most competitive components allowed by WC and Grand-Am cup racing.
Car is now clad in ’03-04 Cavalier LS sport fascias and lights to current year model. The chassis is extensively
lightened and has a substantial rollcage that ties in all suspension and unibody stress areas for very little flex
and the utmost safety for racing. The chassis has adjustable camber plates with special shortened Bilstien racing
struts and coil-overs w/racing springs, lower control arms and knuckles are lightweight alum. with hd gm 115mm
wheel bearings. Corvette pbr 2 piston calipers and 12” lightweight rotors with a special heim-jointed adjustable
21m front swaybar and reinforced lower subframe. Interior has extensive cage protection and lightweight alum.
racing seat- tubular racing shifter, lighted tach and gauges, lightweight steering wheel assembly. All new wiring
and circuit breaker/fuses on all systems. Wiring harness has GM diagnostic port and is set up for early GM Quad 4
engine management and ecm (#707) but could be upgraded to (Ecotec)or later. ABS and other components could
also be added.
New in- car fire system (needs installed) Lexan windows front, rear and sides, window net, full view rearview mirror,
full elect. system kill switch mounted in driver’s door window. adjustable brake bias parts included, but not installed.
Fuel system is set up from Grand-Am Cup legal stock fuel tank & filler and has aeroquip lines, but all parts and fitting
for a 22 gal. fuel cell are also included, would just require external high pressure pump and cell to install. Car is set
up for either front or trunk mount battery location- both wirings are there. Rear suspension is highly modified and revised
geometry with relocated wheel bearings, lightening and reinforcing with full k-brace European touring car design to
articulate the suspension and keep it tracking with less flex. New 11” rear disk brakes and alum. calipers are installed as
well as a speedway fully adjustable rear swaybar- can be made cockpit adjustable with parts from riley. Car has new silver
paint job and body has never been dinged or wrecked, only has limited test miles in its history, so this is basically a new car.
Have two rear spoiler versions, both legal except for WC SCCA.
Full rolling chassis with all components listed, some requiring install for $12,000.
Or with complete, fully prepared Getrag F23 close ratio transaxle and Quaife road racing lsd unit- $15,000.
Can be provided with either Quad or Ecotec based engine mounting and transaxle assembly. We can also quote any level
or racing engine to suit your intended class rules and budget. Don’t let this car get away, the sister version of this car ran
third in the nation in Grand-Am Cup with more weght and a ”legal” engine, unlike some of our Acura competitors.
This car also carries a legal and registered ohio title so it can be kept street legal if wanted."

imagine pulling up next to a mustang in this with the engine described on the web site. and making the quy sweat all the way to the finish line for less than 25 grand
P.S. notice that I put this in a correct topic
Ugh, this talk about Cavi's reminds me of this one kid's in school. It started out looking ok, a plain white cavi, but now it looks so fugly I almost threw up today. White caviler, with a ugly whale tail on the back (unpainted), a really weird *** exhaust thats loud and annoying, and then he has these giant APC stickers on each side, and on the back, along with Summit racing stickers... I wish I had a camera to show you how bad... theres so many bad looking cars out here.
