I am going to bring one home at lunch for my wife to check out and drive. It is a GLS hatch with cloth interior. If she decides she likes it I think we will look for one with no options since they want $500 for CC and CD. I would rather just get a 10 disc changer from Crutchfield for $149 and use that in conjuction with the factory tape deck. The majority of the music is for the kids so the 6 speaker setup is not needed, nor is high wattage.

So assuming I can convince her to sacrifice and not get the factory roof and CD player the new car should run around $13,300 after tax and reg.

She didn't like the used '04 idea? Thought you were trying to do that to avoid eating the initial depreciation? I think you'd be the first one here with a GLS hatch.

Well I looked into the used one more and it turns out they own the 2004 GT too strong. It is $10,700 which after tax and reg is about $11,500. So for $1800 more we get a car with 10-100 warranty and we know where the car has been seen it is brand new. You never know what the previous owner did to a used car.

The actual purchase won't happen for about 2-3 weeks so there is a chance we may get a GT hatch for better money but if not we will most likely stay new. Plus we don't like leather so the GLS hatch is preferred over the GT.

Ilan, The price works out like this for a 2005 GLS 5dr, auto, mats, mudguards

$14,014 vehicle w/options and dest.
$1000 tax and reg
-$1750 rebate

$13,264 total

How did yours price out?

That was a really good price on a GT Ilan. Myabe it's b/c I am in a smaller city but I ended up paying $13,000 for my GLS.

What is nicer? My wife and I don't want the leather and have no need for foglights. Other than that they are the same car. We want the cassette deck so I can add the 10 disc changer cheap and easy and have both cassette and cd capability. The car will come with steel wheels and hubcaps which will be perfect to mount snows on. I have a set of 205/50/16 tires on 16x7 alloys here at work that I can use for summer if I want. The 5dr GLS has the same suspension as the GT so I don't see any real benefits to a GT vs GLS 5dr.

What do you see as the big benefit of a GT over a GLS?

Well after thinking about it more the auto just makes more sense with kids. Less things to distract you. It does cost more money up front but it also returns more on resale as well.

Well it looks like we are going to do it. The one catch might be if there is no cash back for February. Right now the cash back is $1750 but that ends January 31st. If there are no rebates in February we will have to wait until HYundai offers them again.
