Planning on putting a Mac Mini in. Will use a Xenarc Touch Screen, MyTV/fm USB TV & FM Radio Tuner for Mac, a Frogpad (http://www.frogpad.com), and a bluetooth phone for pairing and internet connectivity. :)
Will also have to get an amplifier to hook up the Mini to the existing speakers (won't be too big of a job).

Here is a case that will fit the standard DIN dimensions:
http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=3#c134
It will only fit certain sizes of mini-tix form factor motherboards, but some are very powerful. Also, low-profile RAM must be used along with a notebook-sized DVD-ROM/CD-RW and HDD, but this case will support a pretty useful setup, and I like the fact that it has USB, FireWire, and audio jacks on the front panel. www.mini-itx.com is full of some pretty amazing projects where people have stuffed massive amounts of hardware into unusual enclosures.

Yeah Im doing the mac mini thing to. Ive already ordered it $516 on my student discount. I just have no idea of where I want to place it at in my car....Its DIN size BUT:
Im not interesting in moving the temp controls...and Im going to do some fabrication work to put in a touchscreen LCD to make it look factory...so either im going to position the Mini in the glove box...or that little space beneath the ashtray... It has to be somewhere where I can easily access the CD drive on the mini.
I wish I could possibly position the MINI AND the LCD in the center console somehow.
Anyone have the exact measurements of the Elantra DASH and what size screens would fit?
BTW....look at this guy trash Hyundai in a post I made on MP3CAR forums.

i see youve found those forums too, very helpful info on carputers...... That guy is so dumb, he calls us cheap for owning hyundais, but he owns a 1995 lexus and the reason he gives for buying it is because it was cheap....... anyways it seems like everyone is on ur side and hes all alone

haha yeah the funny thing is he said he didnt even buy the car...his grandmother did. But anyway...what screen what you recommend to put in an Elantra and do you plan on installing the screen into the dash to make it look factory or are you just getting the regular in-dash flip out w/ a receiver?

yea i plan on doing what sed (http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/DSCF0902.JPG) did, im getting the 8" lilliput, but im also relocating the HVAC, if u dont want to relocate ur HVAC, then u should prolly get a smaller screen

like how small? 6'5"?
What I want to do is accomodate a Mac Mini & A screen without having to relocate the HVAC.
And just in case....how difficult is it to relocate the HVAC and do you have more pics of this guy's install?

Basically HVAC relocation involves taking all the wires on the back of the HVAC, cutting them, and extending them to be long enough to wherever you want to put it. It's not an overly complicated project, but a major PITA that deserves a lot of credit for those who have done it (not me).
Oh, and that guy on the other forum is only adding to the stereotype I've developed about Lexus owners.

seds project (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5549)
i dunno exactly what siz ull need, go out to ur car and measure, but make sure u measure both w/ the dash off and dash on, so ull have an idea what room u really have
i want to relocate the HVAC like This (http://www.performancestyleattitude.com/vehicles/2004elantra/elantra2004_09_l.jpg), and just remove the ashtray and cig lighter

Wow...dont think ill be trying that :(
I dont even want to cut a hole in and repaint my dash let alone cut some wires.
I wish I could just get a screen and have it fit 100% percent into the din without having to do some major fabrication...I dont even think im going to rule out a flip out screen at this point.

no offence but if you're that scared to cut, solder, etc. and expect things to just fit, you will either never get anything done or will end up paying someone to do it for you. i can guarantee you that you will never acheive a nice clean OEM look with a carputer taking parts out of the box screwing them to stock mounts.
here're some details on HVAC relocation btw....i bet it looks more complicated than it is

Im not neccessarily scared...I just dont want to F up on something ive never done before with a brand new car. Especially without a DIY...and I havent seen one yet. I saw that someone actually purchased a dash and did their fabrication without disassembling the one already in the car. Where could I get a dash for the Elantra from?

1. Ebay (cheapest, but hardest to find)
2. Member here, if anyone is selling
3. www.allhyundaiisuzuparts.com (internet junkyard)
4. Junkyard
5. Dealer (ouch, $$$)
I paid about $40 for the one I got off ebay. Costs recovered when I installed my modified one and sold the original one from the car.

well they prolly think ur talking about the entire dash (not the black trim for the raido, guage cluster and hvac
This is what im going to do... buy the oem woodgrain kit from knoxhyundai (wich is exactly the original trim except wood theme) do all my cutting etc, then just paint it black

plan on putting a modded xbox running linux in my car with a wireless controler. dvd, massive wma storage, games, and more. for the monitor i was thinking of using one of those flexable lamp things and bolting it to the passenger seat anchors.
update:
i did it. it worked. i didn't like it.
i bought a 8 in monitor from radio shack, took it from its casing mounted it flush with the dash. put and inverter in the trunk with my xbox. used a wireless controler to operate it.
cons:
wires everywhere (well enough to bother me)
too hot in trunk (froze a bit)
inverter (wistles like a tea kettle)
