Alright, Ive been searching everywhere for an 05 Elantra wiring harness for my headunit, and havent found a single thing for it. Granted its new and all, but still, youd think they would have came out with a harness for it by now.

Now before everyone goes off and tells me to buy an 04 harness cause they havent changed, I wanna make a mention. I went to Pep Boys a couple weeks ago (thats how long Ive been looking) and bought the harness for an 04. Well guess what, it dont fit the 05. Ive looked at just about every website, forum, and store in Jersey. Noone sells the 05 wiring harness.

My question is this: Is there any time-frame on how long it takes for a wiring harness to come out? When I got the harness from Pep Boys, was it just the wrong harness in the box, or is the 04 really different from the 05? The 04 harness that I got was perfectly rectangular, the harness I need has small tabs that stick out a bit at the corners, and the wires are matched up differently.:WTF:

I just wanna get my headunit in the car, without splicing through wires. I dont want it to look like some kid had no clue what he was doing when he put the radio in the car, and dont wanna pay to have someone do it, when I know I can do it myself. Does anyone know where to get a harness if they have them out yet? Im going nuts over here!

disclaimer: I am not really answering your question, and know little about car audio.

That said, I would be far more willing to place money on the idea that maybe Pep Boys would sell the wrong stuff than that the 04 and 05 harnesses are different. I'd return the harness and call the folks at Crutchfield - you will pay a bit extra for shipping, but it would be worth it (to me, anyway) to know that the right stuff is in the mail.

Changing the harness would be a very un-hyundai thing to do.... meaning, it would cost money! It would be more understandable if they totally redesigned the Elantra for 05, but evern then I doubt they would change it for the sake of change. The free Webtech doesn't list '05 or I would look it up....

Maybe Jay or Knox can shed some light on the subject.....

or, you can pull your stock stereo and take it in the store with you and make sure the harness looks the same before you buy it....

but yeah... I highly doubt that it's different.....

Megamanfre,

go to your local Best Buy and get one of the metra harnesses for an 01-04 Elantra (I bought it for my 04 and it has those little tabs on each corner that you were talking about).

It would appear that the 04-05 are the same...someone gave you the wrong harness.

 Thank you very much. I kinda figured that Pep Boys woulda been the screw up. Ive been looking at the 04 harnesses online, but I could never get a good enough view of the connector to make sure that it was the right one. I figured itd be better to ask about it first before spending 15-20 bucks on something that I think will work.

Once I get my headunit in, Im gonna go for putting my old laptop in my car instead of using my craP3 player.

I just bought one of the metra's from circuit city. I didn't try it yet. I did a search on crutchfiled's website for '03,'04, and '05 elantra and it comes up with the same adapter part number for all three. So they must be the same.

I installed the radio over the weekend and the wiring adapter worker great.

I am in the same boat. I just bought a 2005 Elantra and it only has cassette player, I want to add a CD player to it. I went to Circuit City and they should be getting their 2005 harness in. Any suggestion of what kind of CD I should get for the 2005 and what would fit.

i had the same problem spent a whole day searching for an 05 wiring harness when finaly stopped in a cca (big car audio place in ohio) and talked to the manger .. told him what was going on and he told me that people that were selling the "05 harness" for like 20 bucks were ripping people off ... the wiring harness for the 04 is the exact same as the 05 harness.....hope that helps save some money and time
