The tiburon payments are just too much.

When I went out to buy my car, these were the numbers that I had in my hand:

$1000 down. $230 a month loan for 5 years + Insurance of $210 a month + Gas of about $100 a month.

These are the numbers I came back with when I got the car:

$1500 down. $345.63 a month loan for 6 years + Insurance of $351 a month + Gas of more than $100 a week

I can't afford the car. I'm returning it tomorrow. I'm going to demand my down payment back and just go home.

How can I do this? The dealership called me on Sunday and told me I signed the wrong Contract---and the interest % is too low. So I have to drive back 150 miles...sign a new contract, and up my %.

Even if I could afford the Tiburon now, I will not afford it with a higher monthly payment. And I know they don't have me hooked in...they can't force me to pay more. So I'm handing over the keys and driving away.

It was nice while it lasted.

I did the stupidest thing in my life 2 weeks ago and now I've done the smartest.

-----
I'm glad that I've finally come to my senses.

I do need a car for school and fun, so...
I'm going to purchace a used 04 Elantra. Black or blue....if the price is right I'll buy automatic but I'm looking for 5-speed...

Good to hear you realized your mistake now and still have an out.

It might be a good idea to get the next car from that dealership... since they've already run your credit.....

Yeah, that contract thing is a god send...sounds like you calculated the payments fine with the way they were telling you, but screwed you at the end of it. Walking away is good for the long run too. Come back to us with an XD!!

even when I was driving a lot for work, I don't think I ever filled up 4 times in a week..... but then if you were running that V6 in the tib pretty hard, it would use more gas than an xd.....

Why are the XD's we always see for sale slushboxes.... damn.....

I never knew you could return cars. In California there is no buyer's remorse on new car purchases

Gomez
01-31-2005, 05:21 PM
I am really happy for you, Keyan. I remember reading somewhere that your monthly car payment should be no more than 1/5th of your income. With insurance, half your income was going to your car, not including gas. Good for you, screw the V6. I think you would prefer a car you could mod than a better one that you couldn't.

IMHO the GK is an overrated car, 100% not worth 350 dollars a month.

stick with the elantra, its easier to work on, much better fuel economy, lower insurance, lower payments and we all kick ***....

Haha, good for you... didn't I tell you it was a bad idea in our talk over AIM?

Keyan
01-31-2005, 11:37 PM
Guys, $100 dollars a week is correct. Every night I had graveyard shift 50 miles one way. That's 100 miles a day. Plus during the day I drove another hundred some-odd miles doing odd tasks w/friends & going to the mall...and I was driving as economically as possible...I would only get 250 miles out of a tank. That's filling up EVERY night before work. I wasted $100 dollars in gas in 5 days.

Tomorrow's the big day. We'll see.

sed
01-31-2005, 11:40 PM

OdessitPashka

Since I got my tiburon (5sp) I've been getting gas every two weeks or so. $50 a month or so :) Tank of gas can last from 320-380mi for me :)

Keyan, what are you doing tomorrow? what are you getting?

01-31-2005, 11:53 PM
Tomorrow is the day I drive 150 miles down the NJ turnpike, give the tiburon a nice wash and vacuum, and go to the dealership to beg for forgiveness, lol.

I talked to them today and he said the contract I signed (the "bad" one) CAN be used. The dealership would just be losing money because of the % rate that chase wouldn't give me, but would stay the same. I can't play hardball with this guy tomorrow, I have to get him to pity me and if all else fails hope he's gay and use my "Puppy Dog Eyes" move. (note: i'm not gay. everyone just says i'm freakin cute when i..nevermind).

If this guy hates me so much where I can't get out of the contract I'm ****ed.

I'm probably gonna have to pay some sort of "loaner" and "milage" fee. :(

But atleast I can have a life.

-----

I need to buy a cheap ~$5000 dollar car sometime this week, and I'm trying to push an Elantra on my parents. But there's none around here for that cheap. They say I might be forced into something like a 95 Neon. God I'd rather shoot myself....but I can't be picky right now.

sed
02-01-2005, 12:15 AM
yeah, but they have the option of upholding that contract and "losing" money, which you know for sure they aren't they just want more....

its all up to the finace manager of the dealership.. if he/she does a cost evaulation of taking in the car with the mileage it has on it now and the resale being so low, and its cheaper to make kenyan keep the car then thats exactly what they'll do

OdessitPashka
02-01-2005, 12:22 AM
well, if he keeps the car with the prices that he was given he should be fine :)

sed
02-01-2005, 12:26 AM
I hope so, it sounds like he got upside down on this car almost immediately off the lot....

Kenyan, what you need to tell them is you are interested in a 5spd used elantra 04 with less than 20k miles. Tell them they have the choice of swapping notes with that car or totally taking the Tibby back. It'll put the finace manager in an interesting spot. Either he can place a 04 elantra from an overstock in another dealer, maybe another in his dealer family, or a local dealer for real cheap... They will get you at the higher intrest rate on the new car of course.... OR he can just take back the tibby and try to sell a new car with significant miles.. Its definitely not new anymore, so the value of the car dropped a lot.

Play your cards right and you can walk out of there with a 04 5 spd still under warranty and everyone makes out..

shawn :)

mrhoaf
02-01-2005, 01:40 AM
that's kinda what I was thinking..... see if they have something else you can get... I think they'd be more willing to work with you if they're still gonna get a sale....

ButterBean

I might be forced into something like a 95 Neon. God I'd rather shoot myself....

You do that and I'll drive up there and beat you. My wife had one of those, oil leak, bad paint job, and all. Newer ones may be better, dunno

Worst case is that you still end up with that car. Drive it for about 3 months, make your payments on time, then RE-FINANCE.

That's what I did with my Jeep, went from an 11% rate from the dealer and Chase to a 6% with a local bank, payments went down from ~ $311 to ~ $265. My credit was crap from credit cards and such. Now it's in great shape.

Don't worry too much, and let us know when you get back

I had a choise of an 04 Black Auto Lantra or an 05 Tidal Auto Lantra, and to be honest, I'd rather have the blue. I mean, I had a black tiburon. Any idea how hard it was to keep it clean? I had it 10 days and I washed it twice....and it was STILL dirty!

first mod = remove pinstripe and any badges on the trunk except the hyundai logo

Keyan
02-01-2005, 11:50 PM
I like the pinstriping. I mean, If I had a GT and I had the black molding ALONG WITH the pinstrip, the pin would go. But I think the car looks very empty without it. Especially if I paint my headlights blue. Then there'd just be too much tidal and not enough of anything else. I don't know though. ilan has inspired me to get a car like this, so I hope that he doesn't mind that I'm kind of copying him. I think I'm gonna de-badge the trunk and do the VVT lettering. And get new rims, that's a must. Like the ones KincadeCharade has-- BSA 259's. (where did she go, anyway?)

Interior is weird. It's missing something but I know I don't want to rip everything apart and paint it. The dash is already black so I can deal with the tan everywhere else. Hmm. Anyone selling a triple gauge pod + gauges?

Keyan, I wish I would have read your first post sooner. That whole thing about car dealers calling you back and stating that you signed the wrong contract is a scam! I am not kidding. For about the past 5 years, dealerships have been taking advantage of people like this left and right. If I were you, I would call Hyundai and report this. The dealerships either use the interest scam or say that you did not not pay enough for the car, and the salesman who sold you the car will come on the phone and tell you that if you don't come in to sign the new contract, that he will get fired; then give you a phoney pity story. Some dealerships have also threatened people if they did not come in and sign the new contract. Damn, I would have called the dealership for you myself. I remember reading about this on www.edmunds.com when I was car shopping.

As a follow up to my previous post. do a yahoo search using the words
car dealership contract scam. You will see quite a few sites talking about this scam. The first site under the search which is carbuyingtips.com talks about a couple of variations on this scam.

Here is another site detailing a Hyundai dealership doing just about the exact same thing: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff113627.htm

Welcome to the club Keyan.... the Tidal wave club that is :)

Id start with the small mods .. till ya get the cash... droppin it would be first cause its probly the cheapest....

That contract thing sounded spooky to me... when I did the finance on mine.. they (the dealership) filmed it!... not cause I was special... cause the dealership had some problems in the past... and thats how they kept an eye on thier employees....
