There is a DIY around here for doing that. The covers do not come off. You need to remove the whole back dash. To do that, you need to remove the back seats. It's not hard, just a PITA. I 'll see if I can find the DIY link for you.
EDIT: Here is a link from webtech regarding removal of speaker grills:

It is the same process as described above.

yep...removing the dash is easy on our cars...and as a trade-off..the rear speakers are a huge PITA to work on! :)

I find those back cushions for the GT are a pain to get back in after removal though.

Oooo! Stupid back seats! For some reason my bottom cushion won't come loose. Do I yank real hard?

yes but brace it because all it is is plastic attached to the seat. Don't hurt yourself...here's a link when i did it...http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5682...hopefully that will help you...and another hint REMEMBER when taking off the fabric around the covers...there are 4....4...4...FOUR white clips...i only saw 2 and ripped the metal backing off of the fabric...the 2 are on each side..at the edge..by the trunk torsion bar... GOOD LUCK!
