I used a plastic paint to do my cover, in black and red.

cc, how did you manage that? what technique did you use to only accent the words on the plastic cover?

Well what kind of color scheme were you going for Jcr? Have u done anything w/the interior? I would pick the color u will use through out the car. If u ask me I think a Chameleon color would look hot. My husband has used a chameleon paint for the interior accessories, not sure if it will be good for the engine though.

im still thinking about the colors thats why i asked for opinions lol, im trying to paint the black piece only and then using the same color go over the H and doch 16v letters. then when i get my strut bar paint it the same color so that everything matches, what do you think??

Your car is silver.

Go for blue.

I like your idea about the engine covers, it will emphasize it.

i had like 10 paragraphs about this the day the was was being "updated" err! and when i hit submit, it didnt go through and i lost my whole post. errr... anyways. i bought blue engine enamel 500 F heat paint. the day i bought it when i got home i started reading the back and it says
explosively: keep away from heat, sparks and flame. do not smoke. extinguish all flames and pilot lights, heaters, electric motors and other sources of ignition.
extremely flammable liquid and vapor. vapors may cause flash fire. contents under preassure. keep out of reach of children. WTF does all this mean?

i guess it means u cant use it for the engine...not sure. u might want to go back and buy some paint that doesnt have that on the back. But when you do this painting, do it just like in this pic, where you paint the fuse box, and the panel next to the air filter, it looks so much better.

All that means is the paint, when liquid, and while under pressure will explode. Once its applied to the surface and cured/dried it will be fine.

take it off and powder coat the intake manifold and valve cover...

and get some blue ground wires too, real cheap and they look good!

Regarding the warning label on the paint: I assume it's in a spray can right? If so, what the warning is there for is this reason - ever held a cigarette lighter in front of a can of WD40 and sprayed it? Nice little flamethrower. Spray the WD40 into a nice puddle on the floor and try lighting it- Dosen't do much. It's the propellant that's flammable/explosive. Once the paint is dry and cured, no worries. It's designed for high heat.

^^ what he said.

And i'm still waiting an answer from ccl to know how to accent the ''H DOHC 16V'' words on the cover... I have a few ideas on how to do it, but would like to know how he did to paint em black on red!

mrhoaf
02-16-2005, 08:13 PM
very carefully... LOL

I'd use a brush to paint the parts you want black... once you paint the rest of it of course....

unless you want to try masking it off and spraying it....

KeWLKaT
02-16-2005, 08:18 PM
yep... thats the only 2 ways i came up with :)

but his seems sexy... i want to know how he did it :(

^^^ sounds good, using a thin paint brush and steady hand, it will definately pay off. it looks great doin it that way.

Muahahahahahaa

This is going on my summer to-do list :D

Alright... What else can i paint in the engine bay?

I was thinking about the oil pin handle :)

GTSTISL
02-16-2005, 08:25 PM
besides the fuse box and the panel next to the air intake...hmm maybe get some new colored hoses, and any handles like for the oil, etc.

To get those raised letters painted cleanly, try a makeup sponge. You know, those little wedge-shaped spongey things you see in your wife's/girlfriend's makeup box? They're cheap and they work great. They'll soak the paint in, and as long as you scrape the excess paint off them on the edge of the paint can after you dip it in there, it won't drip or put on too heavy of a coat. I was a model building fiend when I was a kid, and I always stole my sister's makeup sponges for my raised surface work. She HATED that! :D

...bro just paint your existing cover...

if youre gonna buy a new part everytime you're afraid to messup, might as well buy yourself a new elantra!

02-16-2005, 09:49 PM
i've never had any kind of experience paiting anything and if it turns out badly im deffinetly not gonna keep it there so thats why i bought the other cover, no one wants to have something messed up, its gotta be perfect or atleast look good.

sed...

is it possible to powdercoat the camshaft cover? seeing how its made of plastic, and to powder coat, it has to get to extremely high temps then have the powder sprayed on?

I think the valve cover can be powdercoated. I was looking into it, but then I would have needed an extra valve cover..

Now I'm gonna have to go ahead and recommend you make the: airbox top, fuse cover, battery-heat-shield painted to match.

Then get a rag and some elbow grease and make that engine bay sparkle.

Good job on what you've done so far.

Yea, I like it, it makes it look like it's heavy modded :)

How did you do that?

03-15-2005, 01:00 PM
Here is mine. I used Dupont Duplicolor (GM Blue) Same as the S-10 pickups. I hand painted the letters and H with a paint brush and some stock Carbon Blue paint, same paint used to repaint my front bumper.
