View Full Version : Starting to feel the 'car bug' coming back

Well, I've been in modding hibernation since late Sep early Oct. Since then I've been married, bought a house (they started digging yesterday), moved into an apartment in the meantime (on street parking -grrr) and took care of a few other 'wants' I had. I just bought/built a new computer, bought a new large fish aquarium, some tables and chairs, yadayadayada.

Point being, I'm starting to get in the mood to mess with my car again. I still have about 2.5 months before it goes back to summer mode. Tax Day = Summer Wheels and Tires time. I'm wondering what I should start on next. I'm not gonna have the cash (well, be allowed to spend without being physically hamred by my wife :smiley_ac ) for things like a full bodykit or anything like that. I may have to address some 'repair' areas of my car first, like new brakes and get rid of whatever the F is squeeking on the back. But that doen't mean I have to repair with OEM style. I'll have a garage standing in couple months, so let the ideas come in:

Thanks for the ideas, and if you don't remember my car in it's summer mode:

EDIT: Forgot to list some of the things I was thinking of
Front Aero Lip ($33 Dreamka) - will replace Mer. Mystique lip I have now
Chrome Tweeter grills ($9 Kspec) - so cheap, so nice
Blue Mirrors ($28 Dreamka) - only if they are heated
OEM Foglights ($89 Kspec) - replace my Hella fogs with OEM style
CAI (~$35 Ebay) - yeayea, I know, why don't I have one of these yet
Chrome Headlights ($229 Kspec) - big MAYBE on this one
Roof/rear window spoiler (Free, already have) - debating whether or not to use it
Brakes (HP $$) - Slotted/Drilled front rotors and some kick-*** pads
Springs (Eibach if anything) - worried about killing my struts with springs only mod.

I'd definitely do the cheap stuff (under $100 each mod) and install the rear window spoiler before I did the other stuff. The slotted/drilled rotors would be nice, and they do improve braking performance without detrimentally affecting anything else except perhaps pad wear.

What about painting the guts of your headlights instead of getting the chrome ones?

I'd skip the springs and shocks -- mid $$$ to do it right, and you may not like the ride harshness.

I'd go with struts and springs if I had the money. Why are you getting new wheels and tires? Or did you mean you are just putting them back on on April 15th?

Just mean putting them back on. New tires would be nice, but there's nothing wrong with my Hancooks, just want to try a different size (205/40 is a little small).

A spring/strut combo would be nice... but that's starting to run the price tag up a bit. We'll see. There's always Santa Fe parts that could be bought too.
