Has anyone successfuly put an 01-03 dash cluster from a GT into a GLS???
From the back it looks like it just plugs into the wiring harness and clips right in...
I know the GT has a few extra functions like average MPG tracking but in theory it should work right??? (assuming thats a funtion of the cluster itself)
Does anyone know what trouble I might run into?

Yes, odds are that it will just plug in -- I doubt that Hyundai did a lot of customizing to the GLS to mount a new gauge cluster.
There's a good chance that the trip computer/fuel milage computer will work as long as the GLS uses the same type of fuel level sensor, which I would bet it does. Worst case scenario, it won't work for the mpg stuff.
I wonder what will happen with the Odometer reading... I don't know if that's tracked in the gauge cluster or onboard in the computer?!?
this has been tried ever since the GT was released. It will not work. I think Ilan was the first to try it.

man, thats a bummer... why dosen't it work? Does the ECU just not cooperate with it? does the wiring harness even match?

the wiring harnesses are completely different between the GT/GLS clusters... you'd have a LOT of splicing to do if you were to try to swap them out. we're talking like over 50 wires.

Just get a GT wire harness from a junk yard and you are golden

Hmmm... so If I got a GT wiring harness.. one end will hook up to my gage cluster... and where does the other end finally land? Just wondering how much routing I'd need to do...

I know, but where in the car is the CPU? I'm just trying to get a feel for how much work I'd be into trying to get the new wiring harness hooked up.

I think is in the passenger side kick panel, I would PM jay to see if he can inform you better

yeah I'll drop Jay a line... If it's in the passenger kick panel I guess it wouldn't be that much routing... hmmm...

I have a feeling this could turn into one of those "it shouldn't be too bad" projects like the GT seats I just put in my GLS... lol...

Here's a gauge cluster on ebay for you to try it out... the current price is $24.99 plus s/h.

It's being sold by LKQ Online, I bought some older leather Tib seats from them for my wife's car and was very satisfied.

LOL - You REALLY want to pull your WHOLE dash out of the car for this?
9 times out of 10 car manufacturers clip these looms up onto the subframe that the whole dash screws itself into
To gain access to this loom i would assume the whole dash would have to come out....Oooohhhh and then you wanna hope that some of that doesn't run behind the heater box etc or that would need to come out to
I haven't done this to a Hyundai period let alone an Elantra but i have done it to another car i used to own and i can say that was a major pain in da asse

yeah the more I thought of it the more i thought it was not going to be worthwhile... I think I'll just change colors w/ my stock dash.
