Please answer these questions

Are you running a DSL/Cable Router? What brand?

Is the router set to DHCP?

Is your Laptop set to Obtain an IP address automatically or Set manually?

What OS are you running? Windows XP?
-------------

If you can view files on the other computer, then it sounds like the IP address information is correct and you're communicating through the wireless just fine, sounds like it's missing the Gateway information.

You don't have to use DHCP...set the IP to static if you want. 192.168.1.100 for example.
Most Wireless routers have a standard 1 day lease time for a notebook you may want to make sure you have the right WEP encryption key, etc.
