Has anyone else thought of this?
http://partscatalog.hyundaidealer.com/images/PartsGif/T20600066001.gif

replacing the front end fender skins, bumper skin, hood, headlights, and such to get a Tib front end on a XD(2), so its a 4dr Tib.

I think it would look good on a Hatchback. of course completely debadge everything except the crooked H.

Gonna do a photo chop later if I can, and see if door seams and stuff line up.
Should go search the junkyards.

Well it would be a massive waste of time since they use different chassis and the panels/hood wouldnt fit at all. Better off doing something custom like inserting gills on the stock panel or buying a c/f hood. A 4dr tib would just be an abomination.

actually the Tib, XD, and Tucson all share the same unibody.

I'm trying to find some good pics to chop with, i.e. Cardomain. nobodies pictures are at the same angles and distances

Here is a quick chop:

http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/quickchop.jpg

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw the creation.

The tib fenders are also taller than the XDs. I don't think this would work, or look anything at all like something I'd want to see happen.

The lines don't match at all and won't unless there massive customization and the tib front is nice and sleek while the elantra is too bubbly, not a good match.

I never said it would be easy there would defininately be some cutting welding and filling to get lines right especially around the A-piller, and base of the door, and the crease from the door to the wheel well. Not sure what I'd do with the gills

thats the best angle and distance sorry the colors are wrong match I could find, also it's not a hatch, but it give an idea of it

I matched up the A-Piller and door seam as best I could

It was an Idea...gotta look at possibilites, just like SVT shoehorning a 5.0 into a Ford Focus. Now they actually sell kits to do the conversion www.fordracingparts.com

The front looks really weird... I dont like it much IMO. The gills would maybe be nifty, but only on an existing XD panel, not one from a tibby.

what is the differance between the XD and the XD2?

SuperGLS
02-07-2005, 06:03 PM
The problem is the that Tib front end is long, like most "sportscars." This makes it look pretty funny on a four door. Now, could you do it? Probably with a little customization. Would I try it? Probably not.

None of us have even done a XD to XD2 conversion or vice versa, that should be the first thing one of us does (all you need is hood, grill, headlights, bumper).

Good luck though.

what is the differance between the XD and the XD2?

Easy answer... XD is 01-03. XD2 is 04-05. Search for why they are different.

insted of the stock bumper how about use the front part of a bodykit for the tibby

mbv2001
02-07-2005, 08:33 PM
dont do that.....all the money you would spend on that you could do soooo much more like a sc or just a nice body kit but to chop your elantra up would be crazy how would the front end handle a head crash?.....and how bad would state farm or whoever cry about why you dont have the right front end. it would just be way 2 much for a car your driving everyday.keep your money and do your elantra the right way....but if you willing to risk your car go ahead and good luck

and trunk lid. and taillights and rear bumper....

the front of an xd2 is 99% the same as an xd. IMO the rear end is where the differences show...

but why would anyone do a xd - xd2 swap? for the part and labor cost you can get a used xd2!

SuperGLS

Oh, I was talking about the front, since he was concerned about the front Tib swap... well yeah, you know.

There wouldn't have to be too much cost if two members got together, one with an XD, one with an XD2, each the same color... it could work if people wanted.

yes it could, but why?

just a thought, this whole thread doesn't make much realistic sense lol

Ok...I have to agree with Sed...(otherwise he'll think I don't like him). No but seriously...that does kind look ugly.

But here is my quick photochop w/ some other panels on the XD...much better 'eh? :)

If the roof could be also lowered from this xd/tib morph it would look so much better, cause now the front is realy low and sleek and then it just bulges up. Still woulndt really make much sense to do it tho.

well after removing the body panel trims it might look alright. But like everyone said, the bulge of the stock elantra cabin is to fat for it. But, if you want to be different, thats how to do it. Lately all I've been seeing around here in Seattle are body conversion cars, cause everyone is tuning so much that there isn't anything unique anymore, and you have to convert to have any uniqueness.

cclngthr
02-11-2005, 02:35 PM
To do it right, you need to use the back half of a Elantra fender and front half of the Tib fender and a huge amount of time for welding and fitting the two together.

Now that I think about it, chopping and combining an elantra fender and Tib fender would look ok as long as it shortens the length of the Tib fender and matches the lines of the door skin to the wheel well.

Does the GLS roof bulge that much too, or just the GT? Cause it might look better on the GLS perhaps?

Well for the time being since I don't have Photoshop, I used Paint.
You'll notice what i chopped, if you look close enough.

its mainly just the bumper and headlights

it still looks like crap, the front end just doesnt match the rest of the car. if you want a tib so bad, go buy a used one instead of wastin money on this.

this totally reminds me of a crx. Short snout and steep windshield.......dont go there. :abovelol: Although i have to say it does look the most meant-to-be-there out of all of the chops before.

I think that chop is a more reasonable one. Meaning, it would look a lot better like that.

Another problem using the Tib front end is that the Tib is wider than the XD, so it would just be too wide in the front, which probably wouldn't look very appealing, unless you matched it by doing a custom widebody kit in the rear.

Quick note- If you don't like it, say you don't like it, don't tell him his idea is worthless.

It can be done, but would take a buttload of time to do it right. Chip Foose probably could do it. He married a 56 Bel-aire front end on a 52 Chev pickup. Took some doing to get it right, but the final product was fabulous.
