Wow... Seems even too good of a deal to be true, my friend! Although, I don't know a lot about alarms, still have the good ol' factory one :)

jumpman, from everything you're saying, i'm about 99% certain the problem with your factory alarm is the hood pin switch. it's not adjusted properly, or the rubber grommet in the hood that pushes the switch has fallen off.
as for the ebay alarm, it IS too good to be true. the 3000ft range is pure bull. even the reputable alarm pagers don't have that kind of range (the signal strength is regulated by the government anyway). i would stay away from this unit, and concentrate on fixing your existing one... save some dough.

3000ft range? I've got a 791VX Viper, thats $500 and the range is probly 120ft MAX. If your really into switching your alarm, check out any of the DEI alarms. (Viper, Clifford, etc.)

where exactly is the hood pin switch.... and for that ebay alarm, it says it pages to your car from the remote, so i guess its like text messaging from phones, except it sending a signal to lock, unlock, start?.. im pretty skeptical myself... ill def look into the name brand alarms, But the **** is expensive!

high end alarms ARE expensive, but it's a case of you get what you pay for i'm afraid. i have seen too many of those cheap ones with all the bells and whistles not work properly. the two-way paging alarms work like regular alarms with a remote except that the remote can also display status messagesd such as whether your car is armed and whether the alarm gets tripped.
the hood pin switch is on the right side of the engine bay. it is mounted to a bracket which is bolted to the inner fender, forward of the strut. you can't miss it, really. when the hood closes, the rubber bump stop on the hood pushes the switch down. if the switch doesn't move down with the hood closed, the alarm won't arm. that's why your lights flash when you unlock but they don't flash when you lock. that's also why your alarm would flake out occasionally. the hood pin was tripping the alarm because it wasn't being pushed down enough. usually there are two reasons the switch goes out of alignment with the hood: the bracket gets bent down too far, or the rubber bump stop gets popped out of the hood.
