View Full Version : Shorty OEM Antenna Mod !

I decided to chop my stock antenna.

What I did was simple... I used a bench vise to hold the end of the antenna down.. and i used a cheep torch to heat up the little steel ball on the end.

Then I used some pliers and just pulled the ball right off.


then used a hacksaw to chop the steel rod down to 3 inches from the base...

then i used a grinding wheel on the bench to de-burr the tip of the new shorty antenna..

then I placed the stubby guy on the vice and positioned the steel ball on the top.. then i heated it with the torch and tapped it lightly and it bottomed out on the antenna..

and voiala ! Shorty OEM Antenna !

Now I will clean it and shine it up and then re-install it.. :)

I did the same thing.....actually, put the antenna in a vise and pulled off the top knobby thingy, cut and then banged it back on and painted it black. But I didn't cut it that short. My reception really sucks though, compared to stock....and mine is at least a foot or so long.....

You can also get a black rubber vaccuum cap and glue it to the top. Oh, and it helps to paint the whole antenna black :0) Thats what I did

aaaaahh... why use rubber when I can have OEM-looking STEEL ?

Ford-wtf, why the hell dont u have mechanics hands yet? Youre supposed to have black staines in all the crevices and callices (sp.) everywhere. Whats up?

Why do I have a black antenna with a cord wrapped around it from top to bottom? is that a change they made from XD to XD2 or GLS to GT?

yup.. my 03 tib has the black with the wire wrapped around it..

and my moms 02 4 door accent has the same thing..

my XD had the crappy plain steel one ... but it worked out form in the end ! LOL

If youdont listen to the radio why wouldnt you just take it off all together? Remove the antenna mount and the hole filled then painted.

the antenna adds some kind of a ... style. you cant take it off :)

wow, that looks awesome. I had to take it out when I got my car first day at the dealer before they hand me the key.

i hate doing any kind of body work.

WOOHOO!

FF you own!!! :D

I did this today (but cut it to 15 inches) and it was sooooooo easy! Put it back on unpainted though until i move my *** and decide to buy some gloss black for the interior ;)
