I was thinking about putting an MP3 player in a Toyota I had a while back and was told that I could get an adapter that would connect the MP3 player to the CD changer hookup on the rear of the head unit. Does anyone know if our stock head units have CD changer hookups and if this would work?
Also, is anyone else using a standalone MP3 player (like an iPod) and if so, how do you have it hooked up?

they do make those adapters for toyota decks, and they do work.
the stock hyundai CD deck does have a changer port in back, but there is no currently available adapter to convert it into an aux input port. i searched exhaustively for one before finally upgrading my deck. there is an aftermarket converter available in korea, but not outside of korea. i contacted the webmasters of the websites i found selling it (in korean) and they never got back to me. i don't think it's possible to purchase it from outside korea.
i have an ipod. i hardwired the dock to the aux input of my nakamichi deck. just plug it in. no wires to plug in or mess with.

hey SPB, what was that website that had that aftermarrket converter?
Maybe kspec or dreamka4u can get it for us.

keyan: i forgot to mention that i asked kspec and dreamka4u about getting it, and they weren't too thrilled since no one else had requested it. they basically said if demand were higher they'd consider it. secondly, the price, translated into USD, would be about $50 with shipping. so the value is questionable, given that the stock deck is mediocre anyway.
jumpman6235: yes you can use an FM modulator, but the sound quality suffers greatly, since it is converted into a radio signal. also, in area of dense radio stations, intereference is a common problem.

i wouldnt say it would suffer greatly, a regular RF module would make it suffer greatly, but a high quality (http://www.davidnavone.com/linedrivers.html) (N-724) Module will make it almost normal

Imagine traveling from location to location - you go in and out of radio stations, so you are constantly changing radio stations to get a good signal in.
I've got a JVC HU, wife took my Kenwood, and use an auxillary input for my Neuros. Big difference, if you have the opportunity just go ahead and replace the HU with one that will take an auxillary input. Better sound, and less hassle, and you can do something like SPB and make it look factory.
