View Full Version : Amp help!
Ok, I need to bridge my 2 subs on this amp. Here's the back of the amp. How do I do it, sed was helpin me a little, and I did what he said, and only 1 of the subs was working. Any suggestions? http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2002/158/x158xm475-o_side.jpeg

Why aren't you using a class D amp for your subs? The 4 channel for the subs doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, although it is possible (just not watt to price efficient).

how many watts is that amp per channel? what type of amp? what type of subs? and jfreak how can you tell that is not a class d amp?

Okay, first things first. Make sure the filter on both sets of outputs is set to LPF (low-pass filter.) That will make sure that only the bass is going to your subs. Then connect the wires from one sub to the outputs labeled "front" and the other one to the set labeled "rear." The picture is a little blurry, but it looks like the bridged outs are lableled. Just connect the positive wire to the + on the far left, and the negative to the - that's second from the right. (it looks like there's a line pointing to those two connectors that's labeled "BTL?" - I think that's telling you which terminals to use for bridging.) That particular amp is not designed as a subwoofer amp, but it should do the job pretty well. Sony makes good stuff.
ok dude, like i told you last night
take the negative and postive of the left speaker and put them to the negative and postive BTL on the front channels
same for the right, you hooked up the left speaker backwards thats why it doesn't work.
trust me, i told you how to do it right last night.

If he hooked it up backwards, the speaker would still move and make noise, it would just be out of phase. (One speaker pushing while the other is pulling, has the effect of cancelling out some of the bass, but you'd still hear something and see the speaker moving.) My guess is that one of the two sets of outputs was set to HPF instead of LPF. Flip the switch and Poof! It works!
*edit* Duh- I just looked a little closer at the picture and saw the RCA inputs on the amp. If you're bridging it for subs, you have to run your left and right RCA's from your deck to the front left and rear left inputs on the amp, not the way you normally would. (both white ones, not one white & one red) Hope this helps!

take the left from the other side and put it on the left on the other side(if that makes sence)
Kenshin hit it on the head.
lol i didn't even see the bridge on the RCA's thanks man...

Ok, I hooked them up like sed and kenshin said to last night... and the sub hooked to the rear out worked, while the front out didnt. The subs are sony xplod 10", and the amp did power both before I tried this "bridging" stuff, plus I got it off my friend for $35, so im not complaining if it stops working or is low power. I dont get what you mean by the RCA things... do you mean White/white, red/red (going down) or what? And like I told sed, im a compleat retard at this as this is my first car system.
ok OPZ, hook your RCA Cables to BOTH WHITE, that is the top RCA input.... The red goes to the left, the white goes to the white.. but you will be hooking a red up to a white thats ok.
follow me?
shawn :)

Take two subwoofer boxes and place them about a foot apart.
Set amp on top of boxes.
Bridged.

Yep, that's how I did mine, but with 3 boxes and 2 amps. Its kicks so much harder when the amps are bridged like this! One mod you may also think about doing is cutting a large 1 foot hole in the back of all three boxes... combined with the bridging, it is the best sound mod you can do... ;)
lol...

Bridged amp (Lets use a basic 2 channel (Left&Right) car amp for example):
You would take the Left and Right speaker wire out from the amp and combine them into a single channel(bridged). The standard is usually left (+) & right (-) to bridge an amp. So put 1 (+) speaker wire to left (+) speaker out on the amp, then 1 (-) speaker wire to right (-) speaker out on the amp. You now have bridged your amp into 1 channel. It will put out more wattage and heat up alot faster. People often do this to power a single subwoofer. Not all 2+ channel amps can be bridged.
I was thinking about cutting an 18" sub into the decklid of my GT and use the whole trunk as a sealed box, that would sound the best, hehe.

Holy Crap!! Would it be odd to own a speaker bigger and more expensive than my rims?
There was some guy out here a long time ago that totally customized a Hearse(sp?) with a jet cockpit looking interior. He had a 30" subwoofer in the back I believe, custom made from MTX if I'm remembering clearly. It was walled in with a bunch of 8's, 10's, 12's. Supposed to be stored in some garage around here, never comes out. I'll see if I can find it on the net.
Couldn't find it, but I found this:

BTW, that Bass Mekanik CD they talk about is great. It tests your subs output and tracks 20-99 = 20hz-99hz test. I suspect an ex-co-worker stole mine awhile back.

atomic- i bought the one that has the gates bronco on it. the system test takes it down to 0 hz. its crazy watching the subs move in "slow motion". sonic overload and food for woofers is good too. i'm not much into the musical stuff though...i like the sound test stuff. i can make copies of mine and send them to you...or would that be illegal...hmm..
