Well, over the last couple weeks (maybe even months) I've wanted to update from vBChat to a new chat program, simply because vBChat, although useful, has more bad sides than good.

I've found FlashChat, and I love it. Looks like it should be a lot better than vBChat.

So, start using FlashChat as much as you can.

Let me know your thoughts.

no lag at all, and rooms and smileys and away capabilities... even aim scheme sounds!
hopefully more people will use chat now.

Well, Sed knew about it before hand, but yeah, he should be excited.

Also, I've just added a collapsable "Who's Chatting" Module to the right column of the homepage so you know who's in there without having to go in and check.

If I've made you happy, let me know.

Awesome. It's kinda like the chat program I was working on. Now I don't have to finish it, haha.

Good job Super! A much improved program. Now the self proclaimed "post whores" have somewhere to talk. Just kidding all. I think it will be a great addition to the site.

Looks great, is there anyway you can add this to the bottom of the main forum page? You know like under how is on the forums and the birthday's list.

First make sure you have all the new Java apps.

Then, make sure your internet settings in your browser aren't on super protective. Haven't heard of any other problems, so it's probably something like that.

Yeah, I see, that's not an integral part in the chat, but I'll look into it when I have time.

It doesn't work on the Palm mobile platform whereas VBchat did.

VBChat didn't use any third-party components. So you didn't need anything special for it to work. But with FlashChat, you'll need Macromedia Flash (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash) installed. Most people will already have it installed, or if not then the installation will be automated when they try to open FlashChat. But if the installation doesn't start on its own and the installation from Macromedia's site doesn't work either then you're screwed. Either you're using some sort of unusual browser or operating system, or you're on a network with very strict local or group policies.

Fortunately for us though, Flash is going to be very widely compatible for the most part and it is the best choice for an online chat program. ;)

Oh, and if you're using Internet Explorer, installation for Flash should always be automated and a piece of cake since it uses ActiveX. Otherwise, any other browser and platform combination uses the Netscape plugin technology.

hmm
maybe it's nothing new, but i just realized that you must click on the red button on the right top corner to properly "log out" of the chat. I just closed the window and on the very home screen, it kept on telling me that i was still in the chat, which wasn't true.
This perhaps explains why SED seems to be in it almost all the time even when he's not in the chat.

Right, there was a note that said if you leave the chat and then try to come back in right away that it might tell you that you are still in the chat. Just one of the problems with it, which there isn't very many of.

The only problem I've seen with the new Flash chat is the schemes. Depending on the scheme you use and the text color other people use you can't see what they are typing. I think most people have found that using the "Black" scheme works best and also Highlighting the text will work, but I just found it to be a pain to have to change my text color because of someone elses scheme.

Other then that, it's way better then the vbchat program.

You can set it so everyones text is the same color. I suppose it is less cool that way, because you can't just match text color with each person, but, it definitely makes it nice and readable.
