so ive been thinking of putting some sort of mp3 player in my car...honestly, i dont know much about them, but i have about 700+ songs on my computer, some from ares (d/l program) and some from when the first napster (the free one...lol old songs in there) was around...what i want to know, is 1- can i put these songs that i have already on something like an ipod or do i have to use a specific program and pay for the songs (i know apple charges like 1$ song or something) and 2- what are some suggestions besides an apple ipod?

Why don't you just make (mp3)Data CD's instead of Audio... Your Stock CD Player should play them I know mine does (GT) and I can put 75 songs on one cd sometimes more.

- But about your questions... I don't exactly know what the hell your trying to do?!?!!?!

- I use limewire to download my songs

some cd players allow you to input an auxillary device (i think thats right) such as a mp3 player. As for putting the songs from your computer onto the device, well it comes down to the device itself. I have a mp3 player for the gym and it holds about 20 songs. I don't need many more then that at a single time. And to get the music on the player i just hook it up to the computer and transfer. Even though the transfer rate is a lil slow i still can have a new playlist on my mp3 player in about 5-7 minutes.

hopefully that might clear some things up.

if you have the Kenwood headunit that is stock from Hyundai you can get the Kenwood music keg. It is pricey, but it holds either 10 or 20 gigs of music and it is compatible. I havenīt heard any reviews of it though.

Does your Elantra have the stock Kenwood deck in it, just the plain black one, or an aftermarket stereo system? If it's got the Kenwood (or any aftermarket deck over $150.00) it'll play MP3 encoded CD-R's. If that's the case, just copy those files to a data CD-R and stick it in the cd slot. If you've got a GLS or an 03 or older GT with a stock deck, just buy a standard portable MP3 player (iPod, Archos Jukebox, RCA Lyra, etc.) and hook it to a nifly little device called an iRock. (you can get them at Radio Shack) The iRock plugs into the headphone jack on the portable player and broadcasts the music over FM - Just tune your radio to the channel the iRock is broadcasting on. Then you can just stuff the MP3 player and iRock in your center console.

and to answer your question, yes you can put ripped or downloaded MP3's onto your MP3 player, IPOD.

There are universal car adapter kits for IPODS, using FM modulator, if you don't have AUX input on your headunit.

ive got an aftermarket HU...a pretty nice one at that (dealership was supposed to put my old one from traded in car into new car, got rid of it w/ the car, so they bought me the best one the mobile audio shop had)...it will play mp3 cd's, but i dont have a cd burner to put the songs onto the CDs...i guess it would probably be easier to get a cd burner and do it that way

Get a CD burner. It's useful for way more than just playing MP3's, plus it's cheaper, and you can have an infinite amount of storage space - just get more CDs.

Ditto. Since your current deck will play MP3 CD's, just get a burner. Way cheaper, and useful for more than just MP3's. Oh, and Newegg rocks! Fast shipping and good customer service.

actually, if your computer is relatively new (less than 3 years old), you may want to even consider getting a dvd burner. the previously mentioned newegg has plenty available in the $50-$60 range.

I compressed 223 CDs onto 8 homegrown CDs in WMA format. It's awesome! Of course, I keep them on my hard drive as MP3s. I can't wait for DVD based car stereos or better yet, car stereos with a hard drive.
