do you think this idea is? I was sitting there in class one day, and I realised something. What if it's possible to "drive" an automatic 4-speed as if it were a "clutch" 4-speed. Considering that in the Elantra book thingy, it tells what RPM's to shift, couldnt you drive the car "like" a clutch, or do you think the gear's would strip to hell and back? But think about it though... 1st gear, then second, then third, then drive for 4th...

Lot's of people do that.
To me, as an Auto owner, it is stupid. Other people like to do it. I don't know.
"power shifting" is what that is called in an automatic. That is the second most harmful thing you can do to your transmission.. You are actually forcing the gears to move with pyshical force instead of the computer shifting them. The linkages between the automatic shift "lever" are not like a manual linkage, they are NOT meant to be abused, and by abused I mean shifting more than park to drive. They give you the low gears in case you have to hold it going up a hill or down a steep slippery slope. Please do not do this, as the already weak transmission will be kaput sooner than you would like.
In case you were wondering what the most detremental thing is? Neutral drops.
Heh, I was wondering about that. And really, sometimes I wonder about neutral drops. Usually people end up doing them at high RPM's, yet sometimes they "work," I guess, at lower RPM's. And no, I wasnt planning on power shifting in my car, I'd like it to last till I can drive it by myself. Stupid PA laws...

yeah it will kill your transmissions life pretty quickly.

you wont be able to get away with doing that for very long....I am glad you asked before you started!
