I just swapped out my speakers with Alpine Type-S front and rear. A lot of people had mentioned using 6x9 in the rear but the factory were 6 1/2 and only a 6 1/2 would fit.

For Alpine fans: SPS-171A front and SPS-170A fit w/o any problems (the rear are the same as the front but without any component tweeter). I'm kinda pissed that I don't have the bass of a 6x9.

Anyone know some good quality rears to put back there? Like infinity/boston etc?

you'll get more bass out of components than out of regular 6x9's.... simply because the speaker is free to move more....

or you could always go with a sub.....

Ya, bass from a sub is the way to go.

it's been pretty well known that the hatch takes 6.5/6.75 in speakers in the rear, and the sedan takes 6x9's in the rear.

you can increase the bass by dynamatting the doors and the hatch area, and adding acoustic insulation (polyester fill works well) behind the hatch wheel arch lining. that will help, but you sitll won't get the same bass as if you had a sub.

as for speakers, yes-- boston acoustics are great and put out great bass for a 6.5".
