anyone ever think of combining this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/NyckXD/ElantraXD/keys.jpg with http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/NyckXD/ElantraXD/fob.jpg

that's easy... all you need is some glue... or double-sided tape..... even duct tape would work.... :D

Well, do our keys have transponder chips in them? I know that's something Ford does. Supposedly the car won't start if you use a simple copy of the key. You've gotta have the right transponder chip in the key as well which probably works like RFID in a toll tag.

So if you chop off the plastic end of the key, you would need to fit that chip into the remote and I suppose it would work.

No Hyundai's use transponders. As of 9/25/04 anyway.

US/canadian elantras DO NOT have transponders in the keys. some other world market elantras DO.

so in theory, you could combine them. but it would certainly look like *** if you tried. ;)

here's what i would like to see come to market: a switchblade key for hyundais (these DO exist), but here's the twist: it would come already hollowed out to fit the elantra remote's circuit board, LED, and buttons. then you could just crack open your remote, pull the board out, and fasten it inside the switchblade. i would be all over that. but i know that will never happen. :(

You mean like the Audi/VW/Mercedes style keys? The Daewoo keyless remote was just a key with built in transmitter.

yes, shark racing was (maybe still is) selling the audi/VW style switchblade keys for hyundai. the problem is that there is no remote function built-in, so you have to carry it around along with your remote. pointless to me. the key with built-in transmitter is a nice idea also, the new MINI has that.

I wanted this because my dad's key has his built in. It's a bit bulky though.

here's a pic.

There's no remote fuction built in, but I've heard from a couple of members that if you rip off the crooked H on the switchblade, that it's actually a sticker and there's 2 buttons under it.
