After doing a search for about an hour or so, Ive come to the conclusion that the only two people to have made a phantom box in the back corner of the drunk on the hatches, are AvanteXD and southpawboston. I just love the way it looks, and desperately want to throw one on mine, but the problem is, I dont know what the specs are, or what materials were used in either.

I did another search for the past half hour or so, and couldnt find anything with a how-to on making and installing a box in the corners. I wanna do it myself as Im a lil tight on cash. I already have a pair of 12in subs, which Ill probably end up putting only 1 in, maybe 2 if I think there will be enough room, with a 600w amp. Its in your standard speaker box. Its not an enclosure, just basically an angled box that holds the speakers out in the open, I have no clue what its called, but I dont wanna use it as it takes up a hell of a lot of space, and still wanna keep the functionality of my trunk and fold down rear seats. Can anyone either point me in the right direction, or provide a walk through on setting a phantom box like that up? Im totally clueless on what I would need to make sure of for the best sound, but have the ability to make it, so long as it isnt excessively complicated.

Really appreciate the help!

If you are short on money patience or time do not even attempt to build a fiberglass sub box that is molded to the side of your hatch !!! I started and have yet to finish my project and suggest this from experience. I am pretty capable with my hands but fiberglass can tax the most skilled individual especially if you are inexperienced in this medium. The materials required are not cheap !! Besides the fiberglass and resin you may also need to upgrade your toolbox to tackle this project. I brought a kick *** respirator, angle grinder (that I needed anyway) plus paintbrushes, cups, foil, tape, plastic tarps, first born sons........ I will tackle this project again when the weather gets warm again but I will apply the following lessons learned:
1 use as much MDF as possible !! it is cheaper and easier than FG.
2 If you want to use a large woofer in a tight space remove the trunk liner and take full advantage of all the space available in the corner.
3 Make your MDF rings BEFORE you star building your box. This will help you with design and placement.
4 lay your woman well the night before you plan to work on your box. Wake up early the next morning and bust your *** because she will be frustrated with your stinkin *** later that day.

When I go at it again I will be sure to keep you all appraised.

I agree that it is time consuming, but me and my WIFE( thats right, she helped) put one together in about a week. I wish that I would have done a DIY. I dont have time to explain the whole thing right now but I will try to come back on tonight and explain it. One quick note, go to a boat shop to buy your fiber glass and resin. I will have pictures later too.
