Mods are in sig. Not sure how much of a difference the Powerchip will make. I do both city and interstate driving. If I do 70 on the interstate, I can get well over 30mpg...but I normally do about 80-90, so the mpg's drop to the mid 20s.

a lot of city driving, where i like to get on it a lot...highway, if i just set cruise at 70-72, i can pull off about 30mpg

I used to get around 30 all the time when i was doing alot of highway driving, but now that I'm just tooling around town it's dropped into the mid to low 20's...
my car is stock except for a K&N panel filter... and 4 agressive snow tires...

i usually get about 34-37 avg. highway and about 28-33 city. depending on how I shift.

I average about 20-21 and have got as bad as 18 with my auto. My best has been 24. I do about 90% city driving and I love to do stoplight racing. Well, not really racing, but jackrabbit starts are fun! I got about 26 as an average when I had my 5 speed in the same driving situations.
20 MPG is pretty poor for a four cylinder, but that's one of the things I have noticed about most Hyundais, they aren't the most fuel efficient cars around. I'm glad they are durable, though.

When I brought my car home, I got 28mpg on the highway, now, after my 4.10's, I get about 23-25 on the highway and 20-22 around town. Mods in sig. BTW, I know it aint an Elantra, but I just wanted everyone to know that even though I gave up my XD, I didn't give up good MPG's

Long time no see MCM, how's life in that old Mustang of yours? Haha.
As for less than stellar gas mileage compared to Hondas and Toyotas, yeah, it sucks, the new Theta and Lambda engines are supposed to be more fuel efficient, we'll see.

My engine is stock, manual transmission. I bought the multigauge to ration my fuel, and routinely get over 30mpg, driving a mix of highway and city driving. Except for acceleration, I keep it between 5 and ~12 l/km (or whatever the measurement is on the gauge)... definitely keeping it to the left of center as often as possible helps. You can go 80mph and be doing around 10 l/km mileage, which translates pretty well.
One thing I noticed is that in Harrisburg, if you go the speed limit, you can go right through every traffic light like clockwork. It's funny watching people race to the next red light, when I'm just cruisin' along at 25mph, saving gas, and I don't have to stop... I know exactly when the light will turn green so I don't even slow down approaching the intersection. (Maybe just a little bit, heehee.)

My 02 XD is a manual; the engine is stock except for a CAI, polished TB and Kore catback exhaust.
I drive ~3 miles each way to work on city streets. That combined with the hills here in western PA causes me to get crappy milage. When I get out on the highway I get ~28 mpg. The car also weighs a bit more than stock since I've got ~70 lb of speakers/amp/box in the trunk.

'03 manual 4 door. I drive about 90 miles per day: coming, running, going...
I've had my car just under 6 months and have put 14,000 miles on it already.
About 85% is all interstate/open highway. I average overall 32 mpg.

I'll have to check to be sure, but with approx 98% city driving I am in the low 20's. As soon as I have a more exact number, I'll add my vote.

So far I get about 30.6 MPG from the computer of my Elantra GT 05. Car is all stock. Ok, I am quite gentle on the accelerator. Highway definitely helps to increase the gas mileage. I do about 45% city, 55% highway.

When we lived in the apartment in the middle of hell. . .I mean town . . . I used to get about 25mpg. But that was 9 miles, 45 minutes of stop and go hell. Now, I have a 22 mile, 20 minute drive all highway at speeds around 70-80mph and average 29-30mpg now.

04.5 Kia Spectra (2.0 Beta II ). I seem to get somewhere between 22.5 - 25, i drive rough sometimes, and i do a whole bunch of highway driving.

How do you guys get so good mileage compared to me???
Albeit my wife and I definitely drive stop and go: 15 all-way stops and 2 stop lights over the 3 miles from home to work, add about 10 more stop lights for my wife's work, 5 miles away... yup- suburbia hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but I only get 20 mpg for that, bone stock automatic... On highway I can get 30 mpg, but the 10 mpg difference bites.
I just put in an SRI, which seems to have raised it to 22 mpg, but yeah, still sucks.

My wife had the same problem with her Suzuki. She drove it 1 mile to work, 1 mile home. The car never reaches operating temp, so it runs in the "cold mode" (closed loop) and runs extremely rich. She was getting 12MPG in a v6 Grand vitara. The thing is 2 feet shorter than my elantra! Now that she drives around 28 miles each way shes now getting 22MPG, which is about right considering the speed she's running.

I get 31-33 mpg on the highway @ 70-75 mph, and 27-29 mpg in the city. It's not that bad on gas (not the best either). I get pretty good numbers because I don't accelerate towards stoplights, and most of the time, I tend to shift fairly conservatively. I'm putting in a CAI this week... I wonder how it will effect mileage... I'll keep y'all posted.

90% highway miles doing 80-90mph
I usually put 1-2 hours of highway miles in each day
automatic stock '02 GT
says 20.1 but i get 190-200 miles to a tank (well 12-13 gallons full not all the way).. anyways that would be like 14-15 MPG (heavy foot)

This is going to be a pain to work out.
I get 200 km/ 18 litres
which is 124 Miles/4.75 Gallons
which is 26 MPG.
This is in 75% city conditions, 25% highway, average rev range for shifting 2600-3200.
A/C used 35% of the time, one window open 65% of the time.
Unfortunately I don't have a device for measuring my Km/L on the fly. I miss that.
Edit: Handy table
http://home.arcor.de/muellberg/mpg.jpg
Edit #2 - 13/9/2005: Just worked it out properly, and got 7L/100km. This looks to be 40MPG!!! 65% highway driving, no air-conditioning.
Most of the time, unless I'm first off at the lights, I change at 2500rpm, and if I'm going any constant speed over 40mph (60km/h) I am always in 5th gear. Downshifting occurs 50% of the time.
The Hyundai Australia website lists the manual Elantra as 8.1L/100km so I'm stoked!
This was with Regular Unleaded (91RON) too!
Got a tank of 95RON in now, and will update...

Bone stock '05 GT auto, less than 400 miles on the clock. Mostly city driving, very little highway(less than 55 mph speed limits). My trip computer shows between 21.1-22.6mpg.

You need a Tib Multiguage, it measures fuel consumption using the Liters per 100 Km way.

Mine used to be 26-29mpg mixed highway and city about (50/50), but after getting my CAI it's between 29-32mpg mixed highway and city.
Some tips for better gas mileage... Get a CAI!
Make sure your tires are inflated properly (yes, this will make a noticable difference), you can even overinflate a bit (keep within 10% of manufacture limits for safety though)
Don't accelerate towards red lights or speed excessively

Ohh yeah, I remember you posting about that problem before. Damn.
Hmmm, maybe you could custom fab it somewhere else?

Maybe I'm one lucky dog. Maybe it's because I'm an engineer. Maybe I'm a horrible engineer and horrible at math.
But mixed driving, including 80-90mph highway surges in rush hour, almost always leaves me over 30mpg when I calculate based on filling up.
It really shines though on the highway. Locking the cruise at 55-60mph, I get 40-45mpg according to the computer. Comparing that to filling up, I think it may have a 5% margin for error, but that's still insanely good. Cruising at 65-75 I get anywhere between 38 and 35mpg, which is still well over the EPA mileage of 34mpg.
This from a car that can hold five people comfortably, clear a live opossom in the middle of the road, and accelerate uphill at 90mph.
OK, noob question - what's a CAI?

all i have is a SRI scottsdale and phoenix are highway everywhere so 90% highway i usually get between 28-31mpg based on tripometer and filling up. if i drive harder, it can be as low as 22mpg

I get anywhere from 24-26 sometimes 27 with a CAI and ARK exhaust. It's pretty low by my theory because I'm pretty lead footed.
On an interesting note, I read an article on CNN the other day that said when driving on the freeway there is no considerable difference between running the A/C or having your windows open as far as gas mileage goes.
I thought I read too that tire pressure really doesn't affect the gas mileage that much either although I could be wrong. I'll look for it and see if I can find it again.
EDIT: Here's the link http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/05/01/driving_for_mpg/index.html

Tire inflation does matter, but if something was really wrong with the road perhaps it would work the other way.
Have to say that AC and electric powered systems do also use gas. How much may depend on a few things. For example, I've found my best results when it isn't insanely hot when I turn on the AC full blast when going downhill, then completely off uphill. This of course on the freeway.
Driving style does of course matter most of all. Little things like accelerating before braking when you could just look ahead make a really big difference.

2004 GLS 5-speed manual with no mods whatsoever except audio and a dash kit. I drive 75% highway and then it is downtown traffic. I drive the car like I stole it on the highway but sensibly in town so I don't kill a pedestrian or get ticketed by Pittsburgh Police (assholes.) Avg MPG is 29.5 and is not affected by the air conditioner.
