You have to remove the whole dashboard fascia. It's not hard. 4 screws, and you have the DIY. After that's off, you'll easily see what you need to do.

Yep, two screws behind the ash tray, two screws in the facia above the speedo cluster. Carefully pry the black facia out and away and take out the 4 or 6 screws that hold the tape deck and cubbyhole out. Unplug the harness and the antenna. The radio is held to the radio/cubby bracket with two screws on either side that you can get to once you remove the whole unit.

so another question
I took the tape player out, and put in another cd player I had. My new CD player does not turn on. The wiring harness is where I think I messed up. (I've never installed a CD player before) When connecting the wires togther the Hyundai harness had a few wires left over, 2 orange, and 2 blue I think. Does this sound like a problem or is that right and my problem is elsewhere.

hmmm does every other electrical thing work? maybe forgot to reconnect battery if u diconnected - terminal? if not it sounds most like wiring problem. Double check all the wirings and there MAY be some left over. With my kenwood HU, i had "dim" wire and one other feature wire left over i think. Also don't forget to check the fuse.. not likely but always could be.

First, make sure there's not a "Reset" button somewhere which you'll have to push with a pin on the face of the new CD unit. The crappy Jensen one I put in my wife's car several years ago stopped working (it wouldn't turn on). I pulled the dash apart, checked all the fuses and nothing. After tearing the dash apart, I found the reset button and pushed it. It worked fine after that. That may solve your problem, too.

However, if the reset doesn't work check your match-up on the wiring like 02xdGLS suggested. It's not unusual to have a few extra wires left over, sometimes a "dimmer" wire and a remote amp turnon lead. Four wires seems like a lot, though.... the yellow/orange ones are usually the remote amp turn-on leads or power antenna leads, but I don't know about the blue ones.

Also check the fuses -- there's one behind the flip-out cubbyhole to the left of the steering wheel -- the map of the fuses is on the back of the flip out part. There may also be a fuse or two on the wiring harness that came with your new CD player or the fuse might be in the back of the CD player housing. What model is it?

Usually yellow is constant 12v+ power. But, hyundai has used funky wires elsewhere too. I would also agree with the above the 4 wires seems like a lot.

did you crimp all the wires together, b/c if it's 4 seperate wires, try crimping the 2 blue 1's together b/c that's the power ant and lead turn on wire, so that might make a difference, sounds like everything else is done right, but if you didn't crimp those blue 1's do it. electrical tapes works also...

i would seriously go back and make sure you wired everything else correctly. any time you have even one left over wire, you have to step back and think what else might be scresed up. the two orange wires are right front and right rear speakers. i only know of one blue wire, which is also right rear.

this might help you. the top connector is the one that hooks up to the radio. the bottom one is down at the kick panel, ignore that one.

Another thing to check is your fuse. I know the first time I installed a head unit I blew the fuse twice.

Well, I have no idea what I did wrong, but I took it all apart, and did the wiring over again. It works fine now. Very strange. Its definately a 2 blue and 2 orange wires left over. I don't know why, but it works. Guess my cd player doesnt support something.
Thanks for all the help.

Next weekend I think I'll be touching up the paint job, I'll let you know how that goes :)

Anyone find any good uses for that slot right below the CD player? It just sits there and isnt even big enough to hold 3 cd's. I'd love do do something fun with it, but I have no idea what.

check the wiring harness package about the extra wires... the are color coded and on the back of the package it should tell you what the extra wires are.. i just installed mine and i only had two wires left over...four is just to many

ummm
as far as i remember, those are just regular screws. you just stick your screwdriver into the screws and turn left or counter-clockwise. they should come off. just try harder. there was no glue.. at least not on mine.

i spent like 30 mins just on those 4 trying to take em out, theres some yellow stuff like melted cheese on top of the radio so im guessing thats some kind of glue, of they were to be glued, whats a way to get them out?
