View Full Version : 2nd Degree Burns

I burned my right hand today while being careless and not paying attention. We were disposing of some old gun powder, so we poured it out in thin lines. We would then light it with a long stick and watch it burn out rather quickly. But for some reason that's still unknown to me, I decided to use a cigarette lighter instead. Long story short, the gun powder was so old that it had become unstable. It ignited very agressively and flashed back onto my right hand. So now I have 2nd Degree Burns over 75% of my hand. The pain is unreal, but the meds the Doc gave me are doing a fairly decent job of keeping them in check.

I feel like an idiot. I know so much about guns, ammo, and weapon safety, I should have known better than to do some stupid **** like this. But that's what I get for being careless.

Hey man I feel your pain, why messing around with medical stuff today, helping to burn warts with liquid nitrogen and there was an accident. The guy who was caring for the LN slipped and the chunk that was in the open container fell out. Now my natural reaction to that was to catch it...NOT SMART! Do not handle this **** without proper gloves on! In short man, get better soon so you can enjoy the fruits of the flywheel!

reminds me of the time I filled a Co2 canister with gunpowder and lit it...

it made a hell of a bang...fortunately we were smart enough to be hiding behind something sturdy.

its amazing I have all of my appendages with some of the stupid **** I've done.

hope your hand gets better

Thanks guys. This really sucks since I won't be able to drive my car for a while. I can't shift gears with my hand like it is. :(

Looks like I won't be able to install my new clutch/flywheel/crank pulley combo anytime soon. I'll see how the healing process goes. Maybe I can still install this stuff with my brothers help.

Ah yes, "Crater Makers" is what they're called, equal to a 1/4 of a grenade. Fun & loud, but very destructive and highly illegal, please do not attempt to make one.

We've all done dumb stuff, that's how we learn, just be glad it wasn't worse.

When I was younger, I put a Class D rocket engine with water proof fuse into a thick cardboard tube, trying to launch it out like a bottle rocket. Well, I used packing tape to seal up the end of the tube, which happened to be where I was holding the tube, and the rocket engine got stuck to it. It took me a few seconds to figure out why the rocket hadn't come out the open end, even though I knew it had ignited. I looked down just before the ejection charge went off to see my hand engulfed in jetting flames and the skin melting off in layers from my hand.

I can tell you pure Vitamin E worked wonders on my skin, just pop open the capsule and spread it over the skin then put on a rubber glove and let it sit. I never needed a skin graft and to this day you can't tell it happened. A neighbor told me this secret when I ran to him for help, and it worked!!

I just thank god I'm not sitting in a federal prison for the ish I used to pull when I was younger.

Alright, I'm done preaching, get well soon man. :)

Atomic! You know the ish! Aww man, I thought that was special....lol j/k

Anywho, I think we've all done some stupid ish in our days. A guy I used to work with shot me at work once...that was pretty stupid. I used to work at a shooting range, teaching Trap lessons. We handloaded practice shells, which were nothing but a hull, powder and a wad. They were used to teach recoil handling and to get people used to the bang. Anyway, we were screwing around after work one night, shooting some off some leftover training shells and shooting some skeet. So afterwards when we were reloading the traps, I was climbing out and there he was with a shotgun. It wouldnt have been too bad, but somehow, 1 #9 pellet made its way into the hull and when he shot me, it hit me in the theigh. Damn that hurt. Hope your hand feels better

Hope you heal fast.

Next time, add 8 oz of gunpowder to a full tank of gas in your Elantra's gas tank... you'll gain 10,000,000 horsepower... (for about 1/1000 of a second!). ;)

Works (tm) bombs anyone? Man, I can't believe none of my crew died from playing with those when we were younger.

Hope you feel better, chief.

The vitamin E helps a lot, and also pure Aloe like directly from the leaves of the plant. I had a second degree burn on my leg (scald, don't ask). The pain will last for about a week if you are healing properly. Gunpowder and fire is never a good combination, I'm sure you know that already and I won't preach at you, just get better soon.

Ok so heres a picture of my hand, this is going to seem trivial compared to 2004Elantra's hand but here it is. It was a bad blister yesterday, but I broke it today while working out, now its bleeding all the time and its dry as hell.

Ok,

I felt like showing you all some pictures that my brother just took while I was changing the dressing. Enjoy...and if you're eating, put the food down and brace yourself!

The white stuff you see in some places is the burn cream. The dark, or "dirty" areas of skin is actually dirt and gun powder that was "baked" onto my skin. The big pink area is a blister that popped instantly. I actually watched it bubble, sizzle, and all that as I jump back away from the explosion. Thanks for all the Well-Wishes!!!

Axel

holy ****, that is almost almost as ugly as the new accent.

damn, lucky you still have all your fingers.

better living through chemistry though, percocet has gotta help with that pain. And that looks more like a third degree on that blister, but it didn't bleed though...

Believe it or not, but there's very little pain at this point. You know that feeling when your hand falls asleep? That tingly-stinging? That's what it feels like. The blisters on my fingers are under a lot of pressure...not sure if they'll pop or gradually decrease in size. Now and then I accidentally move my fingers slightly, and the pain shoots through my hand like a piece of hot iron. Other than that, it's not as bad as it looks. I don't care if it leaves a scar...as long as I retain full movements and function of my hand. I'm right-handed, so things are a little tricky right now when it comes to doing...well...pretty much anything lol.

I keep looking at my car...and my ECU that has been retuned by Powerchip to correct the rich A/F ratio. Also my clutch/flywheel/pulley and the Crossdrilled & Slotted Rotors. All this **** was supose to be installed by now. Kinda depressing...then again, I've been drinking so that's not helpin. Again, thanks for the well-wishes. I'm heading to bed in hopes of a decent and pain-free nights' rest. Peace!

Regards,
Axel

Damn, that's a nasty accident, makes my hand burn again.

I was told not to pop those blisters if you can prevent it, its your bodys way of healing, like a flesh bandaid. Your body will reabsorb the liquid(mine did) and the skin will dry up and shed off. If they pop you stand a higher chance of an infection plus you'll get too brag about a nasty, discolored scar. The Aloe and Vitamin E helped reduce my blisters quicker it seemed, plus you can get Aloe with Lidocaine in it, feels like ice.

Yeah dude for sure dont pop the blisters thats that I did with mine and that little pric that I got cracked and bled for 5 days, I was totally unable to use that hand for anything due to the stretching of my fingers. That really is a ****ty go man, take car of that hand the blisters should take no longer than 2 weeks to come down as for the burn, well take it easy for a while. Best of luck bro.

Take care,

Donnie
