Ok warning here, rant coming!!
This Terri Schiavo Case has gone on too long. She's been brain damaged 15 years in a vegetative state according to doctors with little/no improvement possible. These parents need to get real and focus on their retirement funds and say good bye! Talk about never cutting the umbilical cord! The parents really have no rights in the case to begin with....the lady got married before she got sick! If Terri Schiavo is still in her head (trapped as I like to think), I feel that if I can never again think for myself, fend for myself, or even eat food for that matter....I'd like to die asap.
so here's my view i guess.
If per chance I were to have an 'accident' that were to leave me in a vegetative state with no chance of recovery, and I have to have some sort of artificial life support or feeding tube, Just let me die!!
Whats the point of life if you cant experience it?

I've been *****ing about this on ThaMike.com all week. I can't believe the President stepped in yesterday. He cares so much about one woman in Florida, but discards people in the Middle East (ours and theirs) like just so much human trash. Gotta love it.

I hate that it comes down to people w/picket signs to save terry. I agree to let her pass but I am not going to stand in the way and get into their decision, these people that are so willing to save her life should mind their own business.
Terry Schiavo became this state b/c she had a eating disorder and her heart failed. What you see on the news is old footage, at this present time she is not coherant and is currently in a coma w/her eyes shut. The media makes you believe that she is responsive when in actuality she isn't.
I believe that since she is married her husband has sole custody of her. If any thing happens he gets forked the bill later on.
In my opinion I wish they would quit talking about it already.

I'd like to see the husband be able to walk away and leave her in her parent's care... if they want to keep her alive, let them do it....

^^^ I'd agree with that EXCEPT that he states it was in her wishes to not stay in the state she's in. That's his argument, that she doesn't want to be kept like this, and he's been trying to grant her wish to die (but the parents won't let it happen).
Honestly, I don't care bout her. What I do care about is the federal government stepping all over states' rights and getting involved in small, personal matters. The federal government is supposed to run the country - not dictate cases on an individual basis.

exactly..... and especially when they're just doing it to try to make themselves look good.....

Thank you hyunelan2. At this point in the situation this is no longer about Terri Shaivo but instead the federal governments blatent disregard of the seperation of powers, the systems of checks and balances and personal rights granted to the citizens of this country by the constiution and bill of rights. The saddest part is that the congress and house of reps didn't learn the lesson taught to the Floridian legislature, the government can NOT write legislation pertaining to only one person.

Fifteen years is a loooong time to be in a coma. It's time for the parents to face reality and move on.
it seems we're not the only ones who feel the Feds should BUTT OUT (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050322/ap_on_go_pr_wh/schiavo_conservatives) of our personal affairs.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about... apparently me and the news aren't too good of friends. But, I don't think I'm missing much.
More importantly, don't worry getfuzzd, I'll be sure to remember this post when you are in a coma, haha. Never say EXD doesn't care, haha.

if you had an old dog that hadnt moved for 15 years would you keep feeding it?
I think the case answers itself.
let her die. (BTW mvb2001, removing the feeding tube is typically how its done...otherwise it would require an excecution of sorts. when my grandfather knew he was done for, he told them to take the feeding tube out)

From what I've been reading, there's a whole lot more to the story. There's been talk about how the husband used to physically abuse here and there's speculation that she's brain dead from being strangled or other abuses. Also, the husband has 1+ million to gain from her life insurance policy. And that in the beginning, she was improving with speech and therapy, until the husband refused the treatment for her. They said she can even eat a little bit on her own, but since the husband stopped all treatment, she's worse off than she was initially.
The husband has already moved on with other women etc... he should just divorce her and move on without all of this court stuff and let her family take care of her if that's what they want to do. Her family is saying she would want to be kept alive, but the husband is fighting to let her die.
And she is not brain dead, she's in a vegetative state (brain stem is still working) and she's not in a coma.
If it's true that the husband intentionally stopped her treatment so she wouldn't get any better, then his intentions are less than what he's making it out to believe. Personally, I don't trust his intentions. From what I've seen, her entire family is fighting to keep her alive for their own reasons. I think her family should be her caretakers if they choose.

Doctors found that her brain disorder was caused by an acute heart condition which was brought on by an eating disorder. The abuse thing is a rumor aimed to defame the husband.
As far as what he has to gain - yes, it's suspicious. But in the past he did offer to give the entire amount to charity if the family agreed to remove the tube, meaning he would have nothing to gain, financially.

This is what I always told people when I was in the Funeral industry, you *MUST HAVE* a living will drawn up if you want any of your wishes granted. If you really care about the other people in your life, then it should be done ASAP.
This topic caused me and my wife to have a loooong discussion about what we would do in this case. We both agree that we would pull the feeding tube if this happened. Its like getfuzzd said, "Whats the point of life if you cant experience it?", I agree. I'd rather watch my boys grow up and life move on from the otherside, than to ingrain their memories of me as a vegetable forever. I've seen the pictures of her husband, and you can see the pain he's going through, he wants so much for his wife to have her wishes granted. Life is hard, but when the media and the government step in.... I can't imagine what this poor guy is going through. If it was as easy as divorcing her and handing custody back to her parents, who want to keep her alive, I believe he would have done it already. On the other hand, if its money that is his motivation to remove her tube, he'll have a nice spot waiting for him in the 7th circle of hell.
