View Full Version : Possible Pittsburgh Meet

We were discussing this in another thread (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6726) and I thought I'd start a new one specifically for this.

I'd like to propose a Pittsburgh ElantraXD meet some weekend day this spring or early summer. By then I should have my car cleaned up.

I'd like to meet some of you guys and see what you've done differently on your cars versus mine.

Any suggestions as far as where and when we should meet are appreciated. Obviously we should use a medium to large-size parking lot where the owners won't mind us parking, or we could meet in one of the parks.

Cranberry PA is another option for the meet since we might have people coming in from Butler (watson80 and OPZ) and Erie (wildman92).

I own a 2000 Elantra, I Live in the south hills of Pittsburgh. It would be great to hang with some other Elantra owners.

Let me know when, I hope I have off that day

Ya, we could extend this to surrounding area's also to, see if anyone from say... east ohio and north west virginia wanna come up. It'd be really cool...

That would be great. I certainly didn't mean to exclude anyone from any of the surrounding states (or anyone on the North or south American continent for that matter) for this meet. Anyone is welcome -- we still need to discuss when and where we should meet, but somewhere within 50 miles of Pittsburgh is about all I can justify driving.

How about Memorial Day weekend, one day between May 28-30 2005 -- preferably Saturday May 28, or the Saturday one weekend before (5/21) or after (6/4) in case people are visiting family on Memorial day?

What are your thoughts?

kyrol, if i were to cruise out there i'd probably want to stay in a hotel as well

lol I did it once and that was enough. Waldorf to pittsburgh or somewhere in that area to pick up a body kit from onelove5683 and some rims for someone else i can't remember who. Drove down and spent like 2 hours talking with him and drove home in damn near freezing weather with the window down cause it's the only way the body kit would have fit. On the other hand the Rental car company that loaned me the car I was driving around while the elantra was getting fixed just about flipped **** when they saw I put almost 8k miles in 2 months on the car lol.

Kyrol
06-21-2005, 11:21 PM
how about sometime after july seeing as how it's the biggest money month on the rail road for us young guys cause all the old heads are taking vacations. then i could come when ever.

kylemorg
06-22-2005, 08:29 AM
How about labor day weekend, the first weekend in September (Sept 3, 4, and/or 5th)? There are some parks around that have reasonable sized parking lots; North Park might be our best bet.

kylemorg
06-23-2005, 03:47 PM
How about Saturday August 6th? That's OK for me and it sounds like some other people, too.

Anyone know how to do a Poll / signup system for this?

Once we pick a date, I'll check with North Park to see if we need a permit or anything, and to see how $ it is to rent a pavillion -- it might be nice to have somewhere to sit and BS, eat, whatever... depending on how much it costs (if it's over, say, $50), I may need some people to kick in a few $ if it's expensive.

Maybe we should decide who's bringing what as far as food / beverages, too if people want to do that as well...

04GTboySC
06-23-2005, 05:10 PM
that would be cool

maybe you could have some people bring food or whatever, and the ones that dont contribute a couple bucks or so to go toward the pavilion?

just an idea, i know when we had mid atlantic honda civic meets we would do that

can you get some info on hotels in the area kyle?

SuperGLS

That's better for me. Does a week earlier make a difference?

Pittsburgh should be close enough for some of the Ohio guys to come too.

OPZ
06-23-2005, 10:17 PM

OK..... Here's an opportunity for somebody to stand up and do the XD community a great service..... We need someone in the Pittsburgh area to do more than say "I'll be there".....

We need someone to say, "I'll organize the Pittsburgh Meet!"

I'd be willing to do it, but I've already planned a meet at a location I'm not familiar with already this year. It's not like you have to book a band, make sure the tablecloths and napkins match, and hand-address the invitations.... It's a car meet. Not a lot of responsibility (well.... if it sucks we'll blame you.... no pressure...lol), but we need someone familiar with the area to pick a location, help everyone decide on a date, etc.... maybe help a few people find hotel rooms....

04GTboySC

Can we do it in Boyce park? North park isnt very easy for outsiders to get to/find.. Boyce Park is like 7 mins off the turnpike only two roads to get there.. and they have nice pavillions and great places to line the cars up and take pics... it's really a great park

also, im very sure we dont need a permit there and its free. i can find out if needed..

oh yeah and there are a ton of hotels, restaurants and whatever else people need right down the road from Boyce...

3. Do whatever.

4. Hooters for dinner.

I would be down to bring whatever.

meet up at the park around lunch.
eat and look at each other's cars.
then go for a cruise to the bowling alley.

For hotel people: the closest ones would be on Mosside Blvd (Rt 48) theres a Holiday Inn, Red Roof Inn, Hampton Inn. So just book with one of those at the Mosside Blvd location.

I'll doubt I'll stay in a room. 3.5 hours is not too bad enough to where I wouldnt be able to drive back. I'll prolly stay and hang out until somewhere between 9-12am.

Unless I'm wasted or exhausted.

As long as I have my music, I'll be fine. W/o music, i hate driving anywhere.

I was just up in Boyce, and found that there are no grills!!! However, I found a great shelter with a weird landscape -- it's in a field of hundreds of off-white tubes sticking out of the ground. There are tiny saplings in the tubes, but all you see are the weird tubes sticking up; it'll make for great picture backgrounds.

I'll post some better directions from the turnpike offramp later this week, and I'll reserve the shelter ($25) so that we don't get hassled while we're there. We will not have a permit to have alcoholic beverages in the park ($50), so those of you who want to drink may be SOL except outside the park. Since most of us are driving to the meet, drinking probably isn't a good idea.

So, if people want to grill, we'll have to get one from someplace -- I don't have one anymore.

The other option is to have cold-cuts or precooked food (KFC or something).

More info to follow

i also have a small portable grill. I pulled it out yesterday to chec it out. Come to find out, there's a colony of ants taking residence in one of the grill legs (hollow metal).

It was crazy, when I set it down, the all swarmed out. So, I'm try to kill them off with a hose and household cleaner.

Its a good thing I checked. Imagine how bad it would be to have a colony of ants running around in my car.

Nm on those gauges.

I'll buy those hubcaps if you still have them? Is $15 still going price?

Yeah, let me check and see what condition they are in (they are at my work).

So, are we still meeting at Boyce Park, or has it been changed to Hillcourt?

We're meeting at the Hillcourt pavillion within Boyce park...

Will we be doing any kind of small mods? I gotta set of indigo gauges that I hope someone could me install. I'll gladly pay. If not, thats ok.

Yeah, bring some screwdrivers and stuff... I'm bringing a floor jack, jack stands and a socket set 'cause I thought people might like to tinker a bit, so the more tools the better.

The only real mod I have is for someone to help me put on my new OEM spoiler, if its not on by then.

i was also thinking, it would be cool if someone brought a radio or somethign so we could have some music.

Just a thought.

lol.... I think we'll have plenty of stereos... unless the pavillion is too far from the parking lot... lol

Did anyone post this info over at Elantraclub?

I'm sure some of those guys would like to come to the meet.
