alright... I'll give a little background so this isn't quite so bizarre... bought my car used here in Indianapolis. It was formerley and Kentucky lease turn in. Now I'm a big fan of Louisville, KY but the middle of Kentucky... well... there are strange people there and strange things happen there....

So... my car has a semi-crushed in roof that may have been danced on... when I got it, it was missing a gas cap... someone had duct taped in one of the headlights because they lost the screw on cap... the splash guards under the front fenders are all chewed up...

and.... my most recent discovery... (drum roll please!!)

DOG FOOD under the air filter!!!!

Yes, thats right folks, there was what I would guestimate to be roughly 2 cups of dog food in the stock airbox under the filter.

http://home.insightbb.com/~richard.meyer/images/airdog.jpg

Now I'm an understanding person... I can honestly imagine scenarios where dog food might be inadvertantly thrown at the car while the air filter was removed.... but... I just don't understand why it would have been left there.

I'm convinced that this was actually a Kentucky performance mod. I've noticed the car has been sluggish and I would estimate I've probably lost between 5-10whp by removing this. Needless to say, although I've added my CAI I'm currently looking for dog food to put in it.

I think maybe IAMS... that adds roughly 30% more whp than other brands

Make sure you puree it first. :), that way you're not running too rich...... but make sure you get the Iams for the air box that's around 50 whp combined, almost like a shot of nos. :D

Great one-liners from Caddyshack:

Combine that dog food with a couple purina stickers on the windshield, no..... get some sponsorships from Iams and have them pay for all your mods :bling:

By the way, as for a real way that got in there -- think mice! That kind of stuff is not as uncommon as you may think.

I had a mouse nest in my old Subaru's cabin air inlet. The car had sat for a few weeks outside, and when I started it up and turned on the defroster blower bits of fluff and leaves blew out of the vents! Luckily the mice had moved on when I started the car, 'cause otherwise bits of mice would have come through or the fan would have jammed up.

I can see how the Hyundai air intake would be an attractive home for a mouse, at least when the car wasn't running ;).

Yep, what you have there is a vermit problem. I had a street bike that wouldn't start after sitting the winter, so we pulled the airbox open to find they had packed the whole box full of straw and dog food from the garage.

Shadow, if you really need a garage to do maintenance on your car, you can use mine. You don't have to plant dogfood in there to make us feel sorry for you!!

lol... hey now... I'm trying to poke fun @ the previous owner!! My car is garage kept now... (i.e. the last 3mos of it's life) but for the past few years it was a poor abused Kentucky car. It wasn't fed... except the dog food... it wasn't properly cared for... I even had to get shots for it and take it to have it's nails clipped. My car is doing much better now...

Let me know, I've got an extra "stall" where I ususally keep the truck.
compressor's ready to go and I got a couple big floor jacks. The Lighting isn't too great, but it's getting better. I added 3 4ft flourescents on that end and it's still dark!

Plus, no mice or weird piles of dog food!

edit: One of you needs to bring a dig camera though, I need new pics ot the truck and car!

yeah, we ought to have a little "indianapolis" meet and go out for a beer or 2. Where are you living these days? (can't seem to remember, even though you told me)

NW, halfway between Brownsburg and Lebanon, right off of 65 N and 267. Close to all the action, lowest property taxes in the state!
