View Full Version : Anything I Should Know About Cam Gears?

So I've decided that one of my next mods is going to be adjustable cam gears (both exhaust and intake). I'm doing this mod because my friend's shop has a dyno so I'll be able to properly test/tune.
Questions:
1. Is there anyone who has done this mod and can offer any advice/info?
2. Is there another (cheaper) source other than K-Spec for the intake gears?
3. Should I wait on the cam gears and just do a header or complete pulley set first?
Obviously I'm going to be held back because of my automatic but I'm looking into swapping that out as well.
Which brings me to: what's a good source for a manual tranny?
I know I asked a bunch of questions in this thread but please bear with me.
LKQ has trannys for sale, so does greenleaf recylclers (sp) and you can find them on ebay occasionally...

I was looking at LKQ's stuff online (engines) after reading someone's post about finally being able to fix their engine - do those $220 engines come with the tranny?? Because $220 is an incredible price if that's the case. If they do indeed come with the tranny then I'm gonna pick one up and start working on the cylinder head so I can build a motor and swap trannies (two birds, one stone)
Hope I'm not taking my own thread too off topic but what would I need for a manual swap?
that was my thread ;)
and, no they don't come with trannies....
You will need the ECU from a manual car, clutch, flywheel and a lot of misc parts that i am not thinking of right now.
I'll call LKQ tomorrow and spek to chuck, my wholesaler to get a quote for you

you dont really want to pick a header (especially if you go custom) until you know the cam profile, etc you're going to end up with.
if I were you, I'd buy the spare motor and do what you want to it, then worry about headers, etc. it'll be cheaper in the long run

Thanks Sed!
Now I'm debating if whether or not the motor would be a good buy. I got all excited at the prospect of cylinder head work.
