Why aren't there any pictures of you drifting the elantra?

I'd be embarrassed to try and drift with my FWD NA Elantra when you have people with Silvias and Skylines.

Well the Elantra is in storage, since Japanese laws prohibit me from bringing it over here.

I would be embarrassed to try and drift any front wheel drive car, it just wouldn’t work. Not all the cars are FI, I will take pics of the N/A cars tomorrow.

i've seen FWD cars drift pretty good, i drifted once on accident turning on a side street, glad the other lane was empty :o

it is possible to drift, but a lot harder for our cars. it will need the use of an ebrake, that or no suspension mods with a lot of hp upgrades. i too have drifted, but i attribute that to wet roads and 80mph (i did do it on purpose though).

in all honesty, i think it takes more skill to drift fwd cars than a skyline, though i do have great respect for those that do drift. i feel that i could do it with no problem.

I've been drifting FF cars for over three years now. And they've included nothing but the Elantra. Sure, it's not as "easy" as a FR, but it sure as hell is a lot more fun. My philosphy is this: learn in a FF, where it takes HP and skill to drift, and then go to FR. I'm still learning things while FF drifting, but I've managed to go up from around 30mph drifts to near 60mph drifts. And people let me tell you, it's one thing to watch people drop their jaws when they see you smoke a Civic in a drag race. It's even better when they have to roll their tongue up too when they see you pull drift after drift around shopping carts, light poles, other cars, other people. It's lots of fun, and scary too. BTW, I do this at a friend's shop's parking lot, so consider this sanctioned, not street racing related.

Ill be getting an S14 soon no SR20DET though D=

BColeman
02-11-2006, 06:37 PM
You won't need the SR20 anyway. You'll see more hp and more performance if you just boost the KA24DE motor, and you'll spend less money. The bottom end of the KA motor is really more stout than the SR any way. You will need to replace the head gasket with a higher heat tolerance one when/if you boost it. The KA can handle upwards of 300-350 hp before needing to sleeve the block and replacing the internals. If you intend to drift the car, you won't need this much power anyway, as long as the suspension is set up right. Have fun, that's one of the cars I've been trying to get my hands on, actually a fastback is what I really want.

Im looking at getting a 97. There is one here for only 5950 which is cheap IMO for a 97. It loks clean too, im gonna check it out later this week.

When i first installed my coilovers into my tib they didnt come with any setup instructions. so i had my preaload all out to whack. As a result of that and my sway bars the rear end became substantially less sticky than the front. it drifted pretty good as soon as ya honked on it in a corner, the centrifical force would pull the "unstuck" rear end out from under ya. I was only mildy set up wonky. if ya did it on purpose youd end up with a car that drifted pretty bad *** without even touching the ebrake. Then again its a little hard to explain to the police man why you couldnt help but drift that off ramp.........

if i can find the vids i made when I first got my 280z i'll post them, it wasn't any hardcore drifting but i went around a pole in a wet parking lot and i don't recommend drifting w/ 30+ year old suspension :)

how was wat done? im confused by what u r asking.. if ur asking for a video or something... of someone drifting an elantra around a pole... it doesnt exist... unless someone, some where... converted an elantra to RWD...

u wouldnt be able to make it around half the pole, without RWD...

unless i got wat ur askign for totally confused... lol

Guess i just don't get the point of drifting. In racing you want to keep drifting to a minimum. I dont get how it ever became a sport.

:abovelol: i know how you feel, though with my maverick most of the drifting is purely accidental.

open diff rear + almost 40 year old suspension with rear leaf springs + almost all weight on the front of the car makes for some real slippery moments, especially in the rain!

lots of noise + smoke = teenagers getting wet, thats how it became a sport, that and most of the people that do it spend more money on tires than anything else

and I still do it. . . just not intentionally. I've been in 4 wheel slides and had teh tail wagging. Just that usually slows me down.

E-brake slides are not drifitng.

No, no conversion. And quite frankly, it's completely easy to do in a FWD. And when I say drift, it's the appearance of drifting, not really drifting. The principles are the same as a RWD car, but technique is completely different.

I made it around the pole 1 and 1/4 times before steering away to drift down the parking lot. It can be done, if all the conditions are right. Also, I had 3 people in the car for the trip, as a demonstration. I could have gone around it longer if they weren't there.

and I still do it. . . just not intentionally. I've been in 4 wheel slides and had teh tail wagging. Just that usually slows me down.

Drifting is essentially control over an uncontrollable slide. Oxymoron I know, but essentially, that's what it is. Any vehicle intentionally put into what appears to be an uncontrollable slide, and is controlled in that slide, is considered drifiting ( or sliding ) regardless of what it takes to make the car do it: Power Over, Weight Shift, E-Brake, Scandinavian Flick, etc.

I'm pretty sure I've drifted in my Elantra before too... I used the throttle to control a slide around a very nice wide exit ramp that my tires broke on once (about a 270 degree sweeper), then I tried it intentionally in other places, it's not easy, but it's possible. It's easier when your rear tires are bald as most Olympic sprinters are.

it's more a powerslide than a drift when you slide in FWD

all this drift talk makes me want the Genesis coupe even more!

Try having an "actual drift car", and it not where you want it to be yet, and no where to drift. Yea.

Although if I could swing it, the 240 and elantra might go bye-bye in early 09...

as BColeman said, a powerslide is just one of many drift techniques ...
