i know that i would get the tib just cuzz that is the car i wanted to buy for my first car but insurance would have killed me. insurance alone for that car for me was over $400 a month. so i went with the elantra. i tell you what i love it.

Next car (if Hyundai) will be the Sonata or the Azera. The Elantra was great, and I loved it when it was new, but now I wish it were a little bigger. I already own a Santa Fe, and will probably have that for a while. The only way I would conisder a tib, is if they put a decent engine under the hood. (I have made my hatered for the 2.7 Delta well known on this site).
If I had to buy a new car today (note the 2 hyundai's I would buy are not available) it would be a toss-up between an RX-8, a G35 (lower end), or a TSX. Once the Hyundai's are available though, that's a lot of value for what you get for the dollar, making the 3.3L Sonata and 3.8L Azera, very compeditive.

I would get either a new Elantra....like an 06 or above....whenever they go to a new bodystyle. OR, I would get a Tib IF they came with one of those new V-6 Lambda engines. :)

Just so everyone knows, I checked Sonata, Azera, and the pickup.
But this morning I was looking at the Tucson forums and it made me want a Tucson too...
may of 07 will be the release of the new style 08 elantra, with the convertible 3.8 lambda powered tiburon...

Sweet. That means I could probably get an 08 Tib in the spring of 08. They may be cheaper then to make room for the 09's. Plus, this will give the Aftermarket about a year to develope some goodies for it. :)

Where are you getting your info from Sed?
That's way too late for the next Elantra. Maybe you mean spring 2006 as a 2007 model?
Although I expect Hyundai will finally decide to make a convertible, I'm not going to hold my breath for any set date at this point.

I picked no, but the answer would really depend on my situation at that point in time.
I love my Elantra, but it wasn't my first choice of cars, just the most logical. At the time it had the most bang for the buck with the best warranty, and being young it was all I could afford.
Unless Hyundai starts building and tuning cars at the level Honda/Toyota are at, I probably would not get another Hyundai unless it was all I could afford.

i would get a sonata, lower it, put some classy wheels on it, and have a nice classy car. tib would be if im wanting a sports car. honestly, when i went to the dealership, i was looking for a tib, v6, but when i found out about the price, i was like "hmm...im not 100% sure i can afford that" to myself, so i got the elantra

I would say a definite yes. My choices are as follows if money ever allows:
Weekend car: Tibby
Second car(for my soon to be wife): Elantra
Larger car/Family car: Sonata/Azera
Hauling/Winter use: Pickup if it ever happens
Daily driver: My current Elantra
This comming from someone just over 2 weeks ago said would never own a Hyundai!!!(LOL) Loving them now.

I said no... for the simple fact that the book value on Hyundais goes down way too fast, so when you trade it in on something new youre almost always in the hole, cause no one wants to give you anything on a Hyundai.
Also it seems that Hyundais concern for performance, technology, and driving pleasure is just not up to par with other car makers today. (really has it ever been?)
I don't want anyone to think I don't like Hyundais, because I do....But when I bought my car it was simply bang for buck and what I could afford at the time I purchased my car.

I'd consider another Elantra if they offer a high performance version of the upcoming model with a manual transmission. Realistically I'll probably get a Sonata GL 5 speed.

My next car will be a performance orientated Hybrid, i.e. Lexus GS 450.
I am not set on who will make it, although Toytoa seems to be leading the charge. If hyundai made a fun-to-drive hybrid car, I'd be all over it.
I think my wife would enjoy the Hybrid Highlander that goes on sale in June. I plan on taking one for a test drive as soon as they show up. She has declaired that she gets the next car and would really get a kick out of the treehugger factor.

Sonata for sure.......at least for me. Hubby is the next in line for a new car, when we do plan to get another vehicle in 1.5-2years it will probably be a SantaFe or Tuscon.

I'd love to drive a Tiburon BUT with the current situation of two young kids, I think my funds will need to be directed to a mini-van. I wonder if Hyundai will ever manufacture one?

I'd like to see what the upcoming new Elantra looks like before I decide if I would buy another Hyundai or not. My only real concern with Hyundai is that although their cars are very competitive as far as emissions are concerned they are not very fuel efficient. If they want to play ball with Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, they need to start working harder on fuel efficiency. With the prices of fuel as they are, even a couple miles per gallon makes a welcome difference. Of course, with the thousands you save in purchase price, I guess that can go toward fuel! But then there is that pesky depreciation. Hopefully the buying public will start to recognize Hyundais as good cars and bring the resale up a bit.
I have always wondered if part of it is the goofy name. Hyundai. I have pondered whether it would benefit Hyundai to change their name like Datsun did in the early 80's, becoming Nissan. The Hyundais of the new millennium are definitely nothing like the Hyundais of the mid 80's. Just my though is all.
I like all the different ways I've heard it pronounced. Hon-day is one. One of my workmates called it a Yoon-dye. It's sad but makes me laugh sometimes. I just tell them it rhymes with Sunday.
My car will prob be with me till it dies, but the wifes elantra will likly be replaced with a Sonata or the mini-van.

I'm a Hyundai man for life. As long as they make a car that fits my needs I will consider them first and foremost whenever I am car shopping. Something about two cars over nine years and well over 200K on the pair, not to mention the other four Hyundais in my immediate family....

I voted for the Elantra. I love its unique body style (hatchback). I really liked the XG350, but the new Azera looks like a Camry with an Elantra front end. If they stuck to the tall front grille, I'd have voted for it. I would only actually buy another Hyundai if the depreciation improved just a tad.

UPDATE: After reading the Super's post about the coming RWD vehicles. I must change my answer. I would gladly take a Hyundai RWD sedan or coupe, whichever is lighter and more performance oriented, so I'm guessing coupe.
How long before a turbo AWD compact Hyundai hits dealerships? If it comes time for a new car and that doesn't exist, WRX it is for me. My choices are really limited in Canada, as we don't even get the Evo.

I got the Elantra over the tib because of the insurance reasons (like many other people have said). If I had to pick one of the Hyundai's I would def pick the new Sonata, the rear tails look very similar to the Accord but a little more angled in. It's very smooth and simple, I love it. BTW I love my Elantra so much, the car has been absolutely great! I got my girlfriend to buy an accent because she's in school and not working a whole lot, the Accent has saved her so much money and she loves her little car!
~Keegan
Id buy another Elantra or a Sonata. I love my Elantra.
I wanted a Sonata at first but they were out of my price range, atleast the V6 model.
The Santa Fe's are nice. My parents have an '05 and I like it alot but the gas mileage sucks.

I'm dismayed at those that said 'no' because they felt that they would trade-up to another manufacturer. My take is that hyundai is as good as Toyota and Honda. The new Sonata is far quieter than either the Camry or the Accord; the V-6 has ample amount of power (250HP); a better warranty and a better price.
The new Azera looks like an Avalon killer to me.
Yes, depreciation on Hyundais is greater than average but for me, a person that keeps cars until they die, that doesn't matter. Moreover, with the new breed of Hyundai, low depreciation may not last.
It seems to me that if logic guides, Hyundai makes alot of sense. However, we all make car buying decisions for different reasons and logic is not the only factor. A young single person may want a car that projects wealth, status and sex-appeal. Hyundai may make great cars but they don't associate with wealth or status. They're sensible. Those that want status and can afford a Maybach, buy them. That's what makes horseracing work.
I can't believe the Accent got any!

I had a '96 Accent GT, and it was a great car for the price (<$10K loaded). It was much nicer than my old car ('91 Subaru Justy); I liked the styling, features (sunroof!) space and comfort. I have no need of another small very cheap subcompact so I wouldn't buy one, but I do recommend them to anyone that didn't need much horsepower or a lot of space and wants to save money; you can't beat the price for the quality and warranty!

To keep this on topic, we will discontinue the small aside we have in this thread. However, if you are embarressed about your Hyundai - it causes me no grief. It shows that you haven't matured enough to learn what is important in life. So please, rather than making posts that are obviously going to cause grief (an anti-hyundai statement on a pro-hyundai site), sell your car; go buy something that will make you feel more secure; and leave the rest of us alone to enjoy our vehicles.
If you wish to discuss this more, PM me, or start a new thread. This one shall now return to the advertised topic.

Huh? The Sonata became noticibly larger this year. The upcoming Azera is bigger than the outgoing XG. And the new Accent is slightly bigger than the current Accent.
What this means is that the Elantra will grow slightly as well. Don't worry, the Elantra isn't going anywhere for a while.

I voted no, and I bought a non-Hyundai for my wife last year. The Elantra is surprisingly competent for the money, and very well equipped (or the Australian-spec cars are). However, the finish is shabby (the panel alignment on mine and many other Elantras is woeful and there is quite a bit of orange peel on the paint, although the paint is quite resiliant to stone chips). Reliability is questionable, and a long-term warranty doesn't really help much when it breaks down and has to be towed etc etc.
So far, with 85,000 kilometers, it has had a new cd/radio, remote, hatch struts and front rotors. It broke down with a shorted wire that had been trapped between plastic trim and the rear tail light surround, which caused the automatic to jam in first gear. It had a radiator clamp fail shortly after that.
I have gotten sick of taking it back for repairs. Typically, you take it to fix a fault or a number of faults, the dealer looks at it, give it back to you, gets some parts in, calls the car back and eventually it is all fixed.
It's one saving grace is that quite a few things went wrong about 18 months ago. Touch wood, since then it has been okay over the last 20,000 km. And I know of some other Australian XDs that have been less troublesome than mine.
However, the common thread is that electrics (be they relays or radios or wiring looms or whatever) are the weak link in Hyundais, and the result of electrical system failures can be anything from troublesome to stopping the car. I suspect that Korean sub-contractors are not up to scratch supplying components of consistent quality.
