For those talking RAIN-X (a silicone-based glass COATING treatment that repels water you really need to check out Aquapel which is made by PPG which BONDS to glass. It is more expensive but lasts 6 months.
I plan to try it but have not yet. Lexus RX330 come with it on the side windows.
Hydrophobic(repels water) substances make water fly off in beads and sheets and snow and ice slip off. However I have found when used on the front windows it makes the wipers chatter as it is "dry" to the wiper. I also find it annoying how the water bounces off. For side and rear (without wipers) it is great.
Also when discussing chatter, wipers with 3 or more "edges" rather than a blade will chatter on a less than perfert shaped windshields. Blades forgive.
