After looking at the DIY and talking with equus I knew it was time to get one of these installed. We only drive the car during the week intown where there is a ton of stop and go traffic and lots of short trips. Equus said this is when you get the most "gunk" going through that tube. I got the parts from home depot. They knew exactly what i was talking about as soon as i showed them the printed picture of OIML8's seperator. Before then He was really not seeing in his head what i was talking about. And as others have said its more cost effective to get 25' of compressor line than it is for 6 feet of bulk! Below are the pictures of where i mounted it and how i ran the lines. If you live in a big city this simple mod could be for you. And it gives the engine bay a little more of a MODDED look. hehe just wish they had red compressor line.. oh well nothing i cant change.

^^^ Yes make your own. I think there's a DIY, if not in the DIY section, check the archives. I made my own for about $8 in parts.

Gelicious what is with that strut bar? Is that secured or just there for show? If its for show, get rid of it or get it mounted.

Wait... this oil catch can kind a thing...

Could you be nice enough to name the parts so it could be easier for us to get em ourselves? :)

Do a search and check the DIYs. (if not here, then archives). It's been gone over several times.

The strut bar is secured! not just for show and IMO its the best bar made for our cars. it came to me very well packaged and i put it on the ground and stood on it and it did not bend!!! i am a 6'2 300lb man and it didnt budge. Once it was secure to the struts it also didnt budge and inch! www.rrmmotorsports.com

The Parts needed for this mod are:

1-Oil-water seperator. Mine is made by husky and they can be found at home depot
2 1\4 nipples that can accept a 3\8 in hose
1-25' roll of compressor hose or pcv hose, 25' was 7.99 at homedepot and to get it off the roll would have been 15.99 cheaper to get the already rolled and youll have some left over for other projects.

the rest is up to you, where you mount it and how you run the line is personal preferance..

have fun

Well I walked into Home Depot tonight to buy the parts to do this. I had the toughest time finding anything because I hardly ever shop at Home Depot. For those of you planning on doing this mod, you can get everything at the tool center where they sell air compressors.

I'm looking at this filter and on the box it said something about not using this item with synthetic oil as that can cause it to fail. It's $11.99. Next I look at the hoses, and there's only one that comes in 25' that was reasonable, and that was $9.99 and it was a blue hose. The "nipples" are another few bucks so in total, it would cost me close to $30 after tax just to do this mod.

For a little bit more, I think I'm just going to buy one of those ebay oil catch cans. At least they look nice and comes with everything necessary to install and mount. I'm not going to spend $30 on something that's not even guaranteed to work with synthetic oil and looks cheap.

well, in regards to your comment about looking cheep, the only thing that doesnt look good about the above oil catch is the fact that he attached it to the bracket using a tie-wrap.

if you only had a little piece of metal and some shears, you could easily fab yourself a nice bracket to hold it in place really nice-like...

The pics may look deceiving, but the filter does not touch or rub on any lines or wires.

Well, I did this mod the other day. I would have preferred blue, but I was not buying a whole 50 feet for 19.99. The only 25 foot hose was 9.99 and was neon orange. Well, over in plumbing, they sold some by the foot (37 cents), so with tax and all I got 3 feet for $1.26. It was either yellow or orange. The only bad thing is that the seperator was $19.94. I got elbows for the fittings. Bnystrom's DIY was priceless. Well, at least orange and blue are complimentary colors, lol.

I also saw the note about synthetic oils and that has me somewhat concerned. I did this at my father-in-laws with his help since he has every power tool under the sun (drill press for a couple of holes in the bracket was really all I needed). I drove the 45 miles home and there was nothing in it when I got home. I guess that is a good sign.

Did you go to Home Depot? Because that seperator only cost $11.99 back in May when I went. I believe the brand was Husky.

what is this supposed to do?! i'm so confused...

Anybody correct me if im wrong...

Your PCV valve (operated under engine vacuum) recirculates the fumes that seep through the rings in the normal combustion process and reintroduces them into the intake for reburn. What is introduced into the intake is a oil vapor mixture. The PCV seperator allows the vapor to convert back into liquid form and is collected in the clear tube. Supposedly, this keeps the intake, valves, pistons, etc. cleaner by reducing the amount of sludge accumlation. I read, that without the PCV valve, the fumes/vapors that pass through the rings, "collect" in the engine and make the oil acidic.

They will, but they're more expensive, the catch can is huge and it's heavier.

I have seen in several threads discusion about which line to place the filter on. Would there be an issue with putting a "T" in the line with the PCV, and taking the line off the cai and combining the two. Seems like this would let you use one filter, catch oil vapor from both without any vacuum problem.? It would appear that all lines would be doing their same job, just all behind the butterfly.

The PCV line is under (slight) pressure and the line to the intake is under vacuum. The net result would be that the gas from the PCV would bypass the filter and enter the intake instead. I think it's safe to assume that if a single line would work, Hyundai would have done it, as it would have saved a few cents per car.

lol

I've had mine for a long time...

and to answer your question... if the manufacturers made their engines last forever then there would be no mechanics or dealer extended warranty service agreements ! LOL and worse of all, you would never have to buy another car from them again !

= less profit.

So how long does this mod take to do? Seems fairly easy... maybe it can be one those simple DIY mods that everyone could do at a meet with someone thats experienced. Given that they bring their own parts.

I was trying to go over this with Felix not too long ago. I'm also a slight bit confused. There is a picture above which shows the red tubing with the engine cover off. I assume that the individual had re-done the tubing himself. Now, the way it's setup in the picture (bottom of the first page) must you have it setup that way to be most effective, or can you have the oil catch can inbetween your engine tubing and intake and it still being as effective?

If I don't make much sense, I apologize and I will try and re-explain myself.

Dust

The less tubing you have, the safer you are. On BITOG, there was a suggestion to not have more than 4 bends, and since the 90 degree adaptors make two of those bends, then you don't have much to play with. If I can, I will be trying to mount one basically on top of my valve cover on my Kei-car.
