I'm wondering about getting a CAI, but I live in Salt Lake and it rains/snows about half the year, so I didn't want to get a CAI if its gonna suck water up into my engine. I understand that the CAI is barely better, but does any one know if they make a WAI for the J2 ?

In the wintertime, it is usually advisable to remove the CAI, or shorten it into an SRI. If water is your concern, you could use an AEM bypass valve (If intake sucks water, this CLOSES to prevent hydrolock). As for WAI, I'm not familiar with that terminology - sorry.

I've been using a CAI now for 2years. We have some nasty moments in the winter and plenty of rain in the spring. Never had a problem. Simplest solution to avoid hydrolocking your engine, don't drive through deep water. You shouldn't ANYWAY, but with a small car of any kind I would advise using caution.

As far as winter, I leave it intact. I always let any vehicle run for 30 seconds or so before moving to give it a chance to move some oil around before putting any stress on it.

Alright cool, so does any one reccomend a certain intake over another one?

As for SRI, what does that stand for? Shortened Ram Intake?

Yeah, Short Ram Intake. You can get one for a 92-99 Civic EX @ pepboys or online and it will work fine.

SRI is great if you wanna suck in the warm/hot air your engine is already putting off. CAI is much better. engines like that cold air :)

Cool, I'm picking up a "Chrome Cold Air Intake Induction for 1997-2001 Hyundai Tiburon & 97-00 Elantra 2.0L I4 Engine" for around $45.
But I'm wondering about the 2.0 compared to the 1.8 engine, because they didn't put the 2.0 engines in the Elantra until 99, so this CAI advertising is a lil tricky on saying it will work for a 97-00 Elantra, I hope it will fit.

for your j2 , you could use a simple SRI from a civic, but you will have to cut about 4 inches off of the end of it for it to fit properly.
