It's in Montogomery, AL.

Duh Keyan, that's the whole reason to go...

Oh, it's 808 miles and 14 hours away for me according to Google Maps.

I'm thinking late July or August for me.

For myself. Would be a fun road trip to their. I think a few went last year when they had the grand opening. I could not make it. But maybe this year if a bunch will do it this year?.?.

I like Hyundai and if I were close I wouldn't mind getting a tour of the plant, but with the way gas prices are now I can't justify taking a road trip (even if it was only a few hours away) just to see the Hyundai plant.

Well, for me, 808 miles is two tanks down and two tanks back, so $120 (say $140 to be safe) round trip, that's cheaper than a plane ticket, haha.

Plus, I rarely drive (36,300 miles right now, the car will be 3 years old in a week), so it's not like I'm putting too much on the car.

And, my route takes me through Charlotte and Atlanta, I'm sure I could meet up (and stay for free) with a bunch of you guys, haha.

368mi from me in Columbia, SC...

not like I post here all that often, but if something happens and I'm in town that week(end), I am definitely in. I'd be willing to meet up with folks in Charlotte or Atlanta if people are convoying down from VA/MD/points north of Charlotte.

Sometimes depending on what options you have as far as carriers are concerned it's cheaper to fly. For example I'll be heading out to San Francisco in a few weeks and the flight from Long Beach, CA to Oakland, CA is $39 each way. If I were driving by myself, that's about an 8 hr drive and probably a tank and a half in gas, one way. I'd spend way more than $39 in gas one way plus the flight takes only 1 hr.

It would be cool but it is just too far for me since I'm in Ohio & the plant is in Alabama. If I happened to be in the area I think it would be interesting though!

I've driven my XD to Florida 4 times.... about 13 hours each way. The seats get a little hard after a while, but overall I think the car is pretty good for road trips. I think it would be cool to tour the plant... I just don't know if I would be able to take the time off to go and meet up with people....

I'd like to take the tour. Wifey and I stopped by on the way to Pensacola last month. Big place it is.

As far as long distance running with the 'lantra, Been there Done that. 2 years ago was 2 weddings, one near Hershey PA, the other east of Rochester NY. Christmas was at aunt's house in Gainesville, FL. Let's just say the car gets round. She'll run with the best of them. Kinda looking forward to heading back out west and running the bigboy speeds.

It's not just to take a tour, it's to take a tour of the Hyundai plant and see cool Sonatas. Plus, we can have some sort of a meet or something.

That's ok though, I'll just go alone.... haha.

I got the chance to visit before they even opened the tour to the public. I just called the media guy on the website and begged........ the problem was, they were not in production yet so it was kind of a let down......(they're making the new Sonatas there)....but I did hear some cool stories from some of the guys there about shipping in the moulds and how they built the place and all.

I'll be going back soon for the real tour. When I do, I'll be sure to pack my camera and post pics here.

I could never drive that far in my elantra maybe if I rented something bigger I would go but never in my xd

Well, this year I'm settling on going to the Pittsburgh meet.

Next summer I'd defintely want to go. Or perhaps the Christmas holiday season, although I'm sure planning that would be more difficult.

I go to school in Wise, VA and live about 5hrs from Atlanta, so if you make the trip for like a weekend in Sept. or something, maybe some of my fraternity brothers will lend you a room, or hell stay in my room. I'm an RA and I don't have a roommate

I drive by it all the time. I live in FWB, FL and have family in SC. I've been to the BMW plant in SC, it was pretty cool, so hopefully the Hyundai plant is too. It looks cool from the interstate. I won't be back in the states until Jan. I'm planning on taking my gf to see snow(first time in her life) in the mountains when I get home. Though I may be sick of snow by then, I'm in the mountains in Europe right now. I might stop by and see it on my way up. If any of you from the Charlotte area would like to do a drive up in the mountains late this Jan let me know.

Also, a few months after getting my Elantra, I drove it from FL to SC, from SC to Las Vegas, then back to FL. I had to break it in ;) It was a smooth ride the whole way, except about 100 miles into the trip a rock cracked my windshield. Got it replaced free, but sucked having to get a new windshield after having the car for 4 months.

I drove by the plant yesterday..... I didn't realize I was going to pass it until I saw a sign for Hyundai Drive.... I got all excited... but it was dark so I couldn't really see much. I live fairly close by so I'll have to check into a tour sometime...

i doubt the plant is still there now with all of this crazy weather... but of course im a geographical idiot and have no clue how far from teh coast it is.

skeetre
11-07-2005, 09:48 AM
It's a long ways from the coast. Like 3 hours north, straight up I65. Plus, plants like that are built to last, not like a cheap house on stilts on the beach front ;) My house is still fine, and I'm about 1 mile or less from the coast. I'm still waiting on a new roof.. guy said 3 more weeks. :P He's already 3 weeks over due.

Vampyrate
11-07-2005, 10:18 AM
well, it will take about another 3 hours from now to get my pads replaced on my car. hopefully i have "squeelers" on my rotors and drums and there is no damage to either two. im hoping this because instead of slowly growing in volume, it just started. anyway... who needs a roof? rooves (sp?) are for losers. all you need is your crooked h and some hot pockets and youre good.
