I'm not sure this has been covered or not (didn't find anything using the search), but here you go:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

DATE: 2/22/05

TO: All Hyundai Dealership Service and Parts Managers

FROM: Hyundai Motor America

SUBJECT: Service Campaign 919 – 2004-2005 MY Elantra Air Bag

Control Unit (ACU) Reprogramming Procedure

Hyundai Motor America is conducting a voluntary Customer Notification

(Elantra Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) Reprogramming) Service Campaign

on certain 2004-2005 Model Year Elantras, produced through December

21, 2004.

The ACU program change ensures proper airbag deployment in

the 40 mph/40 percent offset frontal barrier crash test conducted by

the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

In order to identify only those vehicles affected by Service Campaign

919, it will be necessary to access Hyundai Motor America’s

“Warranty Vehicle Information” screen via DCS Interactive or DCS On-

line before a reprogramming is started. The “Warranty Vehicle

Information” screen will identify affected vehicles with an open

Service Campaign 919.

PLEASE NOTE: On February 23, 2005, the programming software will be

available for download from the WEBSITE. For those dealers that are

on an exchange basis, new software was shipped on Friday, February

18, 2005. Service Campaign 919 is a reprogramming only campaign.

Dealerships should not order any parts.

Enclosed with the Service Manager's letter are materials, which were

developed for your use. Five (5) copies of the Warranty and

Technical Service Bulletin (TSB#05-01-002) containing instructions on

performing the service and submitting the campaign claim, a copy of

the Customer Notification Letter and a VIN listing of both your

dealer stock and your retail customers affected by this campaign.

All in-stock vehicles should have Service Campaign 919 completed

prior to retailing.

Starting February 28, 2005, customer notification letters will be

mailed to all affected customers in weekly flights.

I took mine in to Rick Case (Atlanta, not were Shawn works) to have my Kenwood MP3 headunit replaced AGAIN and they went ahead and did the reprogram for me. I will let you guys know if it did any good once I have a chance for someone to ride in the car with me.

I just got my recall notice in the mail. I called to make an appointment for an oil change and for the reprogram of the ACU. The secretary (I know this woman is not one of the service writers) said I had to *leave* the car with them for this recall. Also in the recall letter it states you should plan to leave the vehicle at the dealer. I'm thinking why the *%(# do I have to leave the car with them for a simple reprogram.

When I go for the oil change I'm just going to talk to the service manager and see if they'll do it right then....

When I had my last oil change, I also had all the little inspections, and a tire rotation done. When I first brought the car in, the service manager ran a check for recalls, said there this air bag recall needed to be done. (Mine was built ON 12/21/04!)

They just did it during all that other stuff, didn't take me any longer.
