So who bought this? I picked up my copy last night after work. I fired it up, my Xbox crashed a few times, don't know why, but I did get some gameplay in between the 7 times the Xbox froze/crashed. I haven't fired up my Xbox since World of Warcraft came out, so maybe it's just cranky from being neglected.
Anyway, I entered Career mode, bought the Tiburon, went racing with all the assists off, no ABS, TC, or Stability control, manual shift, the only way I'll play a racing game. It's hard! Gran Turismo is a walk in the park. The brakes need just the right touch, the steering has to be smooth or else you're sliding into a wall, at which point the body folds up and after a few times the steering is screwed and then the transmission stops responding properly and you limp your mangled wreck to the finish line.
I love it!
I need a steering wheel and pedal set I think to truly appreciate the simulation level of Forza. Anybody got or know who makes the nicest Xbox wheel/pedal set? :)

I was reading about it yesterday. Sounds really good. I'm sure I'll be playing it soon. :)

steve-, you're hard core man.
After playing the game for awhile with all assistance off, I just couldn't win any races. every time I hit the brakes, it would just lock on me and loose all steering response. sliding head first into the nearest possible wall.
I had to turn on the abs.... heheh
do you play on xbox live? maybe we can race our tibs.. :D

I rented MC3 last weekend (read: copied) and I think it's great.
Any idea why Forza was crashing on you? Fatal Frame II does that to me every once in a while...

After reading some reviews I might have to get it. The only problem would be it cutting into my Halo 2 time... hmm.

hard core? maybe, I've won maybe 2 out of 15 races so far. I start to play, run 2 races (usually the same one over again cause I get 2nd or 3rd), then the Xbox claims I have a dirty or broken disc a few times and I get pissed off and leave usually to go play World of Warcraft or go outside, I've heard rumours there's things to do out there that are fun...
I'm going to try one of those cleaners for the CD player's laser eye.
Oh and if anyone wants to find me on Live!, my Gamertag is XDRacer

no assists is the way to go
drifting on the free runs is much easier than it is in gran turismo
easier to hold
ha and i just got my drivatar to start winning races for me now i dont even have to play the game, kindof weird but it gets you out of playing the tracks you dont like.
im definately addicted my name on live is same as here ive only played a little bit online though
just to let you guys know. Certain HUGE games, (it started with "The elder scrolls III: Morrowind) That push the xbox to its limits will give you DDE's (Dirty Disk Errors) The only way to fix it, is to mod the xbox and put a MUCH larger HDD in. I put a 40gig in my box and have had no DDE's with any game ever.
Trust me, its the only way.

I remember that. In Morrowind, if you build up your strength enough to carry ridiculous amounts of items, the game would freeze and crash. I remember tying rubber bands around my Xbox controller so I could walk/swim/jump at a wall and beef up my stats overnight...
you ever use the soultrap glitch? You can level up infintely, have 999 every stat and everything

thats a site i made years ago for that game ;)

Yeah. After I beat the main quest, I Soultrapped myself into a god and smote all the dorky elves, Vivec, and just about everything else. Then I set up my 'home' on the island in the south with the dancing girls and lived in debauchery for the rest of time. The end. :D
Will I play Elder Scrolls IV? Unless it comes out for the current Xbox, not for a looooong time.

I played some Forza last weekend at my parents' house. They have an XBOX and I don't.... how backwards is that?
Anyway, the game is very realistic, and the graphics are very good for a console game. It's impressive. But I quickly found that I couldn't dominate in this game like I can in Project Gotham Racing 2. I played with all the assists turned off, and the feel of the cars definitely takes some getting used to. If you slam on your brakes in a turn without ABS, your front tires can & will lock. When that happens, your car doesn't turn-in, but rather plows ahead. Don't get me wrong, that's what should happen most of the time but I wasn't used to that level of true-to-life physics in a racing game.
All the years of playing video games couldn't make up for the home advantage my Dad already had over me. So he beat me consistently (how embarassing). But it's still an impressive game and I want to play it again. I'm not sure it beats Project Gotham Racing 2 completely... they are different types of games, and there are elements of fun to each. I recommend both. ;)

anyone know if its gonna come out for ps2 soon?
SWortham
05-11-2005, 06:12 PM
Nope, it won't. It's a Microsoft-only game. Kinda like GT4 is a PS2-only game.

Ahhh, this game is FUN. I just got it tonight.
I wanted to buy the Tib, but chose the VW R32 instead. Gotta love AWD.
Anyway, I have yet to play online yet, but Career mode is pretty intense.
My name on live is SuperGLS (duh) and I started a Car Club called EXD (duh). Find me.

I want to add that this might be the best racing game I've ever played.
It's great to adjust ride height, brake force and distribution, damping, stiffness in sway bars, differential, gear ratios, etc and actually see and feel a difference in the way the car drives.
Real damage that affects (or is that effects) the way the car drives or potentially overheating. It's just more satisfying than any other racing game I've played.
It has plenty of cars and tracks for it not to get repetitive and plenty of different racing series and versions of races. The only thing that would make this better is if there was an Elantra and Accent to accompany the Tiburon.
A must have.

If GT4 could have been better if they didn't have that antiquated system to work with. The PS2 is ready for replacement and I'm sure the next gen Gran Turismo will bring a whole new level of game... which Xbox will answer. :)

GT4 is pretty damn good, more customizing would be nice, but their car selection is out of this world!!! They need an ELANTRA!! :D
Steve

Actually I'm basing my opinion on very little, I've played only a few minutes of GT4, all I know is that my only main grief with the GT series was answered when Forza came out ,not because of its near simulation handling and braking, but the simulation damage, I love being frustrated to hell because the Honda behind me clipped my rear panel and hooked me into the wall and now my front bumper is hanging and the car is shuddering wanting to turn left.
