This is going to be a pain to work out.
I get 200 km/ 18 litres
which is 124 Miles/4.75 Gallons
which is 26 MPG.
This is in 75% city conditions, 25% highway, average rev range for shifting 2600-3200.
A/C used 35% of the time, one window open 65% of the time.
Unfortunately I don't have a device for measuring my Km/L on the fly. I miss that.
2004 Elantra 5-speed.

How does one go about figuring out their gas mileage?
southpawboston
06-18-2005, 11:23 PM
fill your tank. reset the trip odomoter. drive until you need to refill. record the amount of gas it took to fill. divide that number (in gallons) into the number of miles on your trip odomoter. that is your gas mileage for the last tank of gas.
if you want it to make it more precise, measure the average over many tankfulls. i.e., after your initial fill-up and zeroing of the odomoter, continue recording all the gas you add to your car and don't reset the odomoter. after a good 1000 miles or so, divide all the gas you put into your car into the mileage on the odometer.
thing reads 18-19 after reset ECU...... (300-400 miles later) im flooring and spinning wheels everywhere :D
29 on my last tank and 32 on the tank before that. I do mainly city driving going to and from work. I used the ac a few times on the last tank too.

80% city and 20% highway
100% a/c, heat and humidity is too much here not to use
Winter
avg 30 MPG
same conditions, except a/c usage.

I have a 2001 Elantra GLS 5-speed with about 78,000 miles. I normally average about 33 MPG. I drive about 95% highway. Normally I have to fill up a gas-tank per week. Overall, I've been pretty happy about my Elantra's fuel-consumption (and lack of oil consumption!)

When I had my Elantra with a short ram intake and an automatic trans on a 04 GT sedan I got 34.9 on the highway. I have to get use to the Tiburon not getting that kinda mileage.

25mpg mixed highway/city with moderate AC usage. Not bad for 2001 with almost 90k miles. This also includes sitting in crappy Southern California traffic with the AC on.

say... when your tank is half full, fill it up all the way, save the receipt with the # of gallons you put it, write your mileage on the receipt, drive it until it's half full again.. check your mileage now. mileage now - mileage you wrote on the reciept, divided by the # of gallons you put in. (I hope my math is right) ;)
I get right about 25 city and 35 highway, 5 speed '01. No mods at all yet except a dented right front end.

yeah i tested mine from colorado to illinois..and i think the best and most accurate way to test it is fill up on a gas station off the interstate then imediatly(dont idle too long) drive very conservativly onto the highway and set it on cruise on level ground at about 75 mph..with all my mods excluding the tb i got 36.3..with the tb its like 28..no air conditioning
30.7 on my last tank. Most of my driving is in traffic with a little highway.
My car is totally stock.

I have a 2004 manual trans. I'm getting 25-27 with 75 percent of my driving on city streets. I went to San Diego one weekend and got 32 with conservative driving and no air conditioning. This is the best car on the market for the money. I bought it new last January for 9,000! It was advertised as 'one at this price'. I would have gotton another 1,000 off if I had been a previous Hyundai owner.

For working out your MPG I find the best way is to note the odometer when you fill the tank (fill it right up). Next time you refill (fill it right up again), note the odometer again and amount of fuel needed to refill. If you are using Miles and Gallons you are done e.g. if it takes 5 gallons to refill completely after driving 150 Miles that comes to 150/5 = 30 MPG. If you keep a regular log of miles between each fill up you can figure a better overall average. Of cours eit kinda hard to work this if you don't always fill it right up ;-) If you are also North of the border and want to figure litres/100km ask again as I have some conversion factors you can use.
