found out tonight that a guy i went to HS and graduated with died in iraq this weekend. they havent really released any details on what happened.

he was engaged to the police cheifs daughter (who i graduated w/ as well), and her dad basically said he would not give him permission to marry her unless he went thru the military for a while. hell of a guilty conscience (sp)hes going to have.

he only had 6-8 weeks left, then he was coming home for good

i guess it really hasnt sunk into me yet. i didnt really hang out with him, but a couple of my buddys were good friends with him. i think the only time we hung out was like 10 people @ his place prom night, but from knowing him from around school, etc, this is just kinda....i dont know. im stunned.

RIP Nick

This stuff is getting out of hand. We are sending our boys over to fight for something that most of the people over there don't want. I,m tired of see our young men getting killed. This is turning into a modern day veitnam(sue me if i mispelled it). I heard this morning there was like 6 suciced bombings.
I have all the respect and honor for these men, but how long do we have to let them die for nothing. This is just my quick .02 and I apologize if I offend anyone, but I thought our President said we beat them? If so why are our boys still there? GOD BLESS THEM ALL AND KEEP THEM SAFE.

Hmm. If they (we) left now, there is a good chance that the new freedom the Iraqi's have would degrade into chaos. THEN - our soldiers will have died and suffered injuries for nothing.

Freedom is precious and costly to obtain and uphold. It's sad and irritating, but reality. Especially when the price is human life.

I understand your frustration though - it's just not as simple as catching and killing the "old guard."

I know how you feel evan. 6 guys and 1 girl that I graduated high school with back in May of '03 went off to Iraq. I have been to 4 funerals since then...
