Hey guys I got a new magnaflow muffler and went to a muffler shop today to look at it and see how much it would be to instal and make 2.25" pipes on my car. The guy lifted the XD and looked at the bends and said it wouldn't be a problem. he said it would be $270 after tax to, make 2.25" pipes from the cat., install the muffler, hangers, and cut the bumper for the muffler. I was thinking that was expensive but he seems like he does a really good job. He showed me sa car that they were putting new dual tips on and walked me under and pointed out that he welds the pipes onto each other instead of usings clamps like on the car they were working on,.
wtf does that mean? to me it just looked neat compared to the clamp things and they bend the pipes close to what a mandrel bend looks like. but I thought when you go with 2.25" it is done from the 1st cat all the way to the 2nd and not just the 2nd back.

A Cat-back is generally from the second Cat backwards. $270 does seem kinda expensive, but if he does very good work it may be worth it. You may find someone to do it for $150 but he might do a ****ty job. Good Luck!!!

BTW, I payed $300 for my Cat-Back. It's 2.25 pipes, crush bent with a Flowmaster muffler and DTM tips. Not too happy with the price, but the guy did a great job.

Axel

yeah I was thinking this is probly one of those "you get what you pay for" things.

seems about right. welding the pipes will keep the air from leaking, but with clamps, theres a good chance air is getting out. i say go for it

BINGO! I believe the Evofusion cat-back is in that price range as well. If he does good work, then it's worth it.

what muffler is he going to install for you ?

In many cases, the muffler shops charge upwards of $ 100 for basic mufflers... then the rest is just tubes / welds / labor..

If i was you, I would get a muffler from ebay or the autoparts store that matches what you want and then have them just make a custom cat-back and weld that on... You should not have to pay more than $ 150 for a simple elantra cat-back.

I agree. When I did mine, I went to the muffler shop, gave the guy my muffler and asked for a Cat-back. I paid $140.00. So sorry but I think he's charging a lil too much... And he routed it diferently for me...

in this pic, you can see just to the right side, that he does have the 2nd cat housing in place...

Hey Cornbread, is there any way you could take a picture of where the pipe goes over the rear suspension? On mine, the guy crushed the hell out of it...I'd like to see yours to compare to.

Looks great, btw...I love the dual tips. Can we get a better pic of the bumper cut-out?

On my car they went under the rear suspension. I don't think many, if any people have it routed that way...

I choose a magnaflow as well, but I bought a muffler that had the DTM style tips (part #14801). That tip style allowed me to not have to cut the stock bumper.

I included some pics of my installation, just as a reference for you, hope they help!

what mangaflow muffler is everyone getting also whats the tip you can use so the bumper doesnt have to be cut, I want a good roar outside not inside the cabin... I know its going to run me about $100 for the muffler + tip and $150 or so to have it installed

Did you not see my post above? That's ok, I'm not sure what muffler everyone has, but like I said earlier, I bought #14801. This muffler is part of magnaflow's SS Series.

All of these mufflers are stainless steel, made for the "street", and come with tips already welded. If you see one you like, try the part number on ebay, they are all over the place there!
