View Full Version : Spec V Wheels = DON'T FIT

Ok. Well, I got some of these and they don't fit. I was under the impression that they did because Playboyz28 has them on his car.

Well, let me clarify, they do fit, just not all the way. Our hub size is 67.1 while apparently the Sentra hub size is 66.1. So, the "hole" in the wheel is 1mm too small... but...

The fronts seem to fit fine with no problems. (Even with the two screws still in).

The rears though, don't fit flush. I drove on them and I get a constant bump bump bump sound and they wobble really bad. It's not rubbing at all.

My thoughts...

I could get some spacers with the Sentra hub size on the outside. The offset on the wheels is already 47, and 5 is the smallest spacers I could get, if that would even work.

Second thought is to get someone to make the wheels fit by expanding the size of the "hole" by 1mm to fit on the Elantra hub. I don't know how safe/good/costly this idea would be.

I keep going back figuring out why the fronts fit and not the rears...?

So, I need thoughts, and lots of them...

Damn. Those look really, really sharp on the Elantra, too :(
Where is Playboy, perhaps he has some insight!

Yikes, that problem kinda sucks... I'm tempted to say you'd be better off selling them and then buy wheels that'll fit properly.

If you have to go overboard with the spacers you could have problems with the lugs bending, snapping, or just vibrations down the road. Then again, maybe not. It all depends. But if you had wheels that fit correctly you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Besides, in order to overcome this problem with a special spacer, you'd be moving the wheels out too far, and I don't think you'd be able to overcome rubbing problems with the fenders.

Boring out the wheel is a possibility, but I don't know anything about that. If the new holes aren't perfectly centered then of course you're going to have some severe vibration troubles.

maybe it has something to do with the drum/ disk brake thing, did playboyz28 have a gt or gls

Apparently you have to grind out the centerbore a bit to get them to fit:

I think he had a GLS.

Besides, the front & rear hub is the same diameter.

Edit... thanks, panasoanic. It sounds like he already modified them to make them fit to me. I don't understand why there would be a difference but have you tried swapping the fronts & rears?

yeah he had to drill the holes bigger or else they dont fit

SuperGLS has Playboy's old rims though.... wouldn't it make sense that whatever he did to them would allow them to fit Super's car as well? The only thing I can figure is somehow the larger centerbore wasn't done the same way front & rear and so now there's a front set & a rear set that can't be rotated.

And thanks sed for the out of place Captain Obvious pic, lol.

Ah ha, out of all the threads I looked at I missed that one.

Steve, I don't have Playboy's old wheels, I got them from a local Spec-V guy.

So... "grind some of the inside center" and I'll be good. Hmm.

Rough decisions...

EDIT- I got an email back from Playboy's and he stated what you found in that post.

He says it wasn't much work.

"You have to take a diegrinder and machine it slightly. The inside of the wheel needs to be machined down slightly."

Oh, my bad... that also makes sense. The logical explanation is usually the right one afterall.

Did you take the screws out from the brakes? I installed a set of AMP wheels and had the same problem with them. But after removing the screws on the brakes they fit just fine. Or did I miss it said above.

SWortham

That's true... you will need to remove those screws unless the wheels have proper indentations in the mating surface.

I had to expand the accord wheels hub, and had no problems, I say go for it supergls get that dremmel working, by the way you will be there for a while

I didn't have to remove the screws in the front. And, I didn't have any screws in the back, so therefore I didn't remove anything there either.

Hummm I ran into this problem with my "winter wheels" I got snows on Sentra rims, I did a quick test fit but I did not have the right lug nuts & when they were put on, they did not fit. I could have jerry rig it but they were steel wheels. I did get a set of Elantra steel rims from a XD member.

Oh by the way if you know a sentra owner that needs steel wheels drop me a line <smile>. Have I got a deal for you :) I'll find a sentra forum & post them for sale

I've decided that my lazy *** is never going to do this so I'm going to try to sell them.

If they don't sell then maybe I will give it a try with a dremel.

wheel spacers would work...offset wise...if they are 47 - 5 you would be at 42...

you could also just dremmel those *****es off...and i'm pretty positive that the lugs will do a good job of keeping it centered on the hub after expansion.

how much are you selling them for?

(or is it on the link?) lol lemme go check that.

edit:

ok i see.. damn... well good luck on the sale..

if the thread goes into oblivion let me know.. i'll take 'em. (dont have $ a.t.m. )

The guy has delayed on me twice. Seems pretty legit though as he is in NY and is only going to be down here to help move his girlfriend who got delayed. We'll see though. I'm giving him one more chance to make it.

I actually had to do the same thing on my old Camaro when I put the 02-04 S-10 ZQ8 wheels on it. I never had any problems at all with the wheels after doing so.

And HOLY S**T sed, where the heck have you been???

Well, the guy came by today and bought them from me for his Sentra. He actually already had some Spec-V wheels that were painted gunmetal but he said they were pretty bent up so that's why he wanted to get some more.

I think next time I'm ready for wheels I'm going to go with the Sonata EF2 16's. Keep up my OEM lookingness.

i know this is old but wanted to bump back up, have you guys tried 5mm spacers? we fitted spec v wheels using just 5mm spacers and it rides perfect. just a thought $10 versus taking it to a machine shop and boring out center

zx2uner

Some of us just bored it out ourselves, but yea...the spacers probably work.

WHOA!!! OLD OLD THREAD....but hey, I'm replying to it anyways..:)

Well, I did have to bore out the centre of my rims, I figured that it was not seating properly when I was getting excessive vibration when i drove them the first time.

I just used an air die grinder at work to do it, I took small portions at a time, but i made it work.
You could take it to a wheel shop and do it and do it right, for the right amount of money.

But for what its worth, they sure look GREAT!....i always get compliments on them..:)

Cant wait to put them back on in the summer time...damn snow just wont go away..grin

Here's some pics..:)

Wow, this whole thing seems almost cruel. Bought in 05, lookin for help, sold in late 06. Then the $10 solution, followed by the pics of what started this thread almost 2 years ago! Ouch if you ask me!
