I am searching around the forums and found no one to ask this question...I think? I now that a 225/45 R 17 would work but just wondering how the 235/40 R17 would measure up. Throught the link provided in the sticky it states that it would be 25mm (1") closer to suspension ans brake lines. My wheel is a 17x7 and is a 40mm offset. I guess I am going to have to get a little dirty and crawl in the wheel well to find out exactly. I am just trying to find the widest tire I can for my solo2/autocross events. I am thinkg of also put a lowered suspension on it and with this kind of with I would probably need to use a coilover setup considering the wide tires. Well just had some thoughts on my mind and wondered what your thoughts would be.

Cheers,
Jason

Here is the information that I found on the site...below:

BackSpace: 123 mm (4.8'') 141 mm

Tire 1
Tire size: 195/60-15
Section width: 195 mm (7.7'')
Sidewall: 117 mm (4.6'')
Tire diameter: 615 mm (24.2'')

Rim 1 size: 15x5.5 to 15x7
Circumference: 1931 mm (76'')
Revs per mile: 833.4

Clearance:
Package 1:
Suspension Assuming that this is OEM wheel/tire and there is no any problems with clearance on both sides.

Package 2 (My Konig Reason Wheels)

Wheel 2: 17x7 ET 40
BackSpace: (5.6'')18 mm (0.7'') deeper.
Rim Lip: 8 mm (0.3'') wider

Tire 2
Tire size: 235/40-17
Section width: 235 mm (9.3'')
Sidewall: 94 mm (3.7'')
Tire diameter: 620 mm (24.4'') 5 mm (0.8%) taller.

Rim 2 size: 17x7.5 to 17x9
Circumference: 1947 mm (76.7'')
Revs per mile: 826.7
Special Note: Speedometer Assuming that this is OEM tire and speedometer readings are correct When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 60.5mph (97.4km/h): 0.8% faster.

Package 2:
Package is 25 mm (1'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Make sure that you have enough room for that. If not, consider lower offset, narrower tires or using spacers.
Fenders Package will stick out 15 mm (0.6'') farther. Acceptable for most cars.

235 is somewhat too wide for your 17x7. Take a few minutes and read this:

http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/index.html?menu.html&tyre_bible.html

You will see that your sidewall will become unsually soft due to bulging and this is not something you want for solo2. You will most likely get better performance from a 215 wide tire.

^^Agreed. 215's are wide enough as long as you go with a quality tire that is nice and sticky. Using Lowering Springs, Sport-Tuned Dampers, and the Tib rear swaybar should make you happy.

235/40 are also a bit taller, so not only would they rub, you probably can't use all that rubber anyway AND you WILL lose braking/acceleration performance. I can tell you from experience that a 215/45 gobbles up more power to take off and takes a little longer to stop.

you can not fit 225 unless you have coilovers...they will rub inside on the strut...i have 215/40 R17's its plenty wide....with -1 degree of camber ....but they have to real coilovers not sleeves but the whole kit and kabuddle

215/45-17 can easily be made to fit. 225/45-17 can fit if you have just the right offset and coilovers which provide more clearance on the strut-side. On top of that you may need to have extra negative camber, and you might have to roll the fenders.

But I've never heard of anyone fitting 235's on this car. If you do it, you're going to need to use 7.5" wide wheels. You'll need just the right offset. You'll need to have coilovers. And on top of all that you'll need to roll the fenders. Then it might fit.

225's on 7.5" wide wheels would be a little more feasible if you're wanting something extra wide. The reason I suggest 7.5" wide wheels for 225mm tires is for the sidewall control, and 235mm tires would just be way too wide for a 7" wide wheel.

Yeah, I have been doing alot more reading on the link left above and finding that it would be nuts to try to make it fit. It was just a thought, sometimes you never know unless you ask. BTW thanks for the link aboe on the Wheel and Tire Bible. Nice stuff on wheels and tires!
